CARE OF ACRYLIC FINISH-All custom models have an acrylic
lacquer finish. This is a finish of maximum durability and beauty.
The use of waxes or polishes is generally not recommended for 60 days
after application
of
paint.
When removing road oils and tar from acrylic finishes, care must be
exercised to use a cleaner that is not harmful to this
finish.
Ordinary
tar removers that were developed for cleaning regular lacquer may be
harmful. Instances have been reported where these commercial clean-
ers have caused
spotting
and in
some
cases dissolving of the finish
causing extensive paint
damage.
.
Any cleaner is satisfactory if it is recommended for use on regular
lacquer, enamel and acrylic
lacquer.
When purchasing, make
sure
that the instructions on the container
specifically state
that the con-
tents can safely be used on acrylics and other
finishes.
SPECIAL POLISH AND WAX JOBS-If you find that the finish
has become slightly dulled by the presence of
"spent
pigment", you
may want to have your Pontiac service man polish it to bring back
the
original
glossy finish. This operation consists of washing the car
thoroughly and following up with an application of a mild liquid
polish. This will remove the "spent pigment" and restore a high luster
without harming the finish.
Properly applied polishes and waxes of known quality will help main-
tain the good appearance of your car. Many
·
Pontiac dealers offer
various
types
of polishes or waxes; Porcelainize, Lustur Seal, and Blue
Coral have proven of real value in maintaining a good paint finish
on Pontiac cars.
If
you
plan on polishing your car yourself, it is well to remember
that the polishes and cleaners which do the job fastest
an,
d easiest
are not necessarily the best. A polish containing a large amount of
abrasive will do the job quickly but will also remove the paint and
may etch or damage bright metal parts.
If
you
had a Porcelainize or Lustur Seal polish job perfor):Iled
on
your car, then you yourself can maintain continual conditioning of
its finish after the original application of Porcelainize with Porcelainize
Wash Cream and of Lustur Seal with Lustur Seal Haze Cream.
Bright Metal Parts (Chromium Plated or Stainless Steel) - The
destructive forces of
salt,
calcium chloride,
salt
air, exhaust gases
and corrosive atmosphere can be alleviated if bright metal parts
are
washed and cleaned frequently. Added protection for these parts
can be obtained 'by periodically coating the surface with wax or
Pontiac CLEAR ENAMEL. Surfaces should be clean and rust free
before applying
coating.
