Troubleshooting
Problem
Short message
displays do not
appear on the video
monitor.
The sound suddenly
goes off.
Sound is heard from
the speaker on one
side only.
Only the center
speaker outputs
substantial sound.
No sound is heard
from the center
speaker.
No sound is heard
from the presence
speakers.
No sound is heard
from the surround
speakers.
No sound is heard
from the subwoofer.
No sound is heard
from the surround
back speakers.

Cause
"SHORT MESSAGE" is set to "OFF".
"GRAY BACK" is set to "OFF".
"VIDEO CONV." is set to "OFF".
The signals input at the HDMI input jacks
are being output at the HDMI OUT jack.
Video signals in the progressive format or
HDTV video signals are being input.
The protection circuitry has been activated
because of a short circuit, etc.
The sleep timer has turned off this unit.
The sound is muted.
Incorrect cable connections.
Incorrect settings in "SPEAKER
LEVEL".
When playing a monaural source with a
CINEMA DSP program, the source signal
is directed to the center channel, and the
front and surround speakers output effect
sounds.
"CENTER SP" in "SET MENU" is set to
"NONE".
One of the HiFi DSP programs (except for
"7ch Stereo") has been selected.
The sound field programs are turned off.
You are using a source or program
combination that does not output sound
from all channels.
"SUR. L/R SP" in "SET MENU" is set to
"NONE".
This unit is in the "STRAIGHT" mode
and a monaural source is being played
back.
Speakers are connected to the
SURROUND BACK speaker terminals.
"LFE/BASS OUT" in "SET MENU" is
set to "FRONT" when a Dolby Digital or
DTS signal is being played.
"LFE/BASS OUT" in "SET MENU" is
set to "SWFR" or "FRONT" when a 2-
channel source is being played.
The source does not contain low-
frequency signals.
"SUR. L/R SP" in "SET MENU" is set to
"NONE" and "SUR.B L/R SP" is
automatically set to "NONE".
"SUR.B L/R SP" in "SET MENU" is set
to "NONE".
Remedy
Set "SHORT MESSAGE" to "ON".
Set "GRAY BACK" to "AUTO".
Set "VIDEO CONV." to "ON".
Check that the speaker impedance setting is correct.
Check that the speaker wires are not touching each
other and then turn this unit back on.
Turn on this unit, and play the source again.
Press D MUTE or B VOLUME +/– on the remote
control to resume audio output.
Connect the cables properly. If the problem persists,
the cables may be defective.
Adjust the "SPEAKER LEVEL" settings.
Set "CENTER SP" to "SMALL" or "LARGE".
Try another sound field program.
Press O STRAIGHT to turn them on.
Try another sound field program.
Set "SUR. L/R SP" to "SMALL" or "LARGE".
Press O STRAIGHT on the front panel so that
"STRAIGHT" disappears from the front panel
display.
Connect the surround speakers to the SURROUND
speaker terminals.
Set "LFE/BASS OUT" to "SWFR" or "BOTH".
Set "LFE/BASS OUT" to "BOTH".
Set "SUR. L/R SP" and "SUR.B L/R SP" to a setting
other than "NONE".
Set "SUR.B L/R SP" to a setting other than "NONE".
