    Installation Unpacking Remove the multifunctional copier from its packing carton and place it on an ample, stable surface. As soon as you have unpacked your multifunctional copier and its accessories, check that all the parts have been delivered and are undamaged.     Mounting the paper trays 1. Insert the input tray in lower front of the multifunctional copier that slides completely into the slots on the underside of the machine casing. 2. Insert the output tray in the lateral guides in the paper output area, above the input feed tray.

    Loading paper 1. Raise the output tray, to simplify access to the automatic feeder. Note the maximum fill indicators on the side guides of the automatic feeder. 2. Pull out the adjustable paper length guide on the input tray and make sure that its adjustable side guides are completely open.

    Software installation Your multifunctional copier has been shipped with the installation and application software needed to perform printing, scanning and PC fax functions. Windows Operating Systems 3.1x, 95, 98, and NT 4.0 are supported. As well as a printer driver and a scanner driver, the Installation CD also contains on-line documentation files, a printer monitor for easy access to printing status and printer care, and a printer set-up utility program (CONFIG.EXE), for personalised printer settings under DOS (see DOS environment ).

    Software installation procedure (Windows® ® ® ® environment) Before installing any software, read carefully the Terms and conditions of the user license displayed as the first page of the software installation procedure and make sure that the multifunctional copier is connected to your computer as per the installation instructions. You should first install the drivers located in the Installation CD.

    DOS environment Although optimised for operation in a Windows® environment, your multifunctional copier will also operate in DOS, recognising PCL III + command codes. This means that you can print from any DOS application that supports this command code set. The installation CD supplied with your multifunctional copier also contains a printer set-up utility program (CONFIG.EXE), which allows you to personalise the machine settings, if your application driver does not already contain the settings you require.

    The envelopes must be inserted with their short side as the leading edge, the printing side face down and the sealing flap to the left. 2. Paper types: For optimum printing quality, you should always use the printing media specifically indicated by the manufacturer (see Supplies for recommended media types).

    Personalising your copy output You can personalise your copy output directly from the operator panel or by changing the settings in the menu as explained later in this section. Using the operator panel Selections made directly from the operator panel are not memorised and will be lost if you press twice, or after the time-out set in Default Settings (Auto Clear Time) or when you switch off your multifunctional copier.

    Copying extra-thick documents If the document you wish to copy does not fit under the document cover (e.g. a book), you can remove the cover, lifting it straight upwards. Once you have finished copying, you must replace the document cover, fitting the attachment hinges in their seats and lowering the cover straight down on to the multifunctional copier body.

    Bypass feeder The exit tray doubles as a feed tray for up to 10 standard weight (80 gr/m ) sheets of media; for other media types, see “Paper types and formats”. You can use the bypass tray to insert media that is different in type and size from those in the main feeder. If you use envelopes, before inserting them, make sure the edges and closing flap are well creased, and that the flap lies flat.

    Personalising your print output Always make sure that the Paper Type and Paper Size features in your printer driver correspond to the type of printing media you intend to use. In particular, the colour calibration in the driver is set specifically for each of the different types of media handled, so an incorrect setting may result in degraded output quality.
