VGA and Extended VGA Programming

This section describes how to access the enhanced modes
of your computer. The information in this section is
intended for users familiar with assembly language
programming. An understanding of this information is not
necessary for normal operation of your computer.
The standard supports a variety of video modes. These
VGA
video modes can be accessed through standard video
BIOS
calls from assembly language as well as high-level language
routines.
When you start up in , your computer is usually in
MS-DOS
standard 80-column text or "alphanumeric" mode. On a color
system this is mode 3+. 640 480 dot 16-color graphics
VGA
is mode 12H. The following table lists the standard video
