3.
Inspect the charger door switch connection.
4.
Turn the key switch to the "ON" position.
5.
Set a DMM to measure DC volts.
6.
Back probe the red wire with a white trace using the
positive probe of the DMM. See Figure 5.63.
7.
While observing the DMM, place the negative probe
on the master ground bus.
If the reading is 4 - 5 volts, the VCM's signal is
reaching the switch.
If the reading is 0, the VCM's signal is not
reaching the switch. Skip to step 10.
8.
With the negative probe still on the master ground
bus and the charger door closed, back probe the
brown wire with the positive probe.
If the reading is 4 - 5 volts, the switch is functional.
If the reading is 0 volts, the switch is faulty or the wire is on the N.C. tab of the switch.
9.
While the DMM is still connected, open the charger door.
If the reading is 0 volts, the switch is functional.
If the reading is 4 - 5 volts, the switch is faulty or the wire is on the N.C. tab of the switch
10.
Remove the VCM by following the procedures
described in the Vehicle Control Module (VCM) sec-
tion of this chapter.
11.
Install the harness break out adapters.
See Figure 5.64.
12.
Turn the key switch to the "ON" position
13.
Measure the voltage from pin 7 (- probe) of the 12
pin connector to pin 8 of the 16 pin connector.
14.
Measure the voltage from pin 7 (- probe) of the 12
pin connector to pin 2 of the 16 pin connector.
NOTE: The brown wire at pin 2 of the 16 pin con-
nector has a diode in it to prevent a back
flow from the VCM.
If the DMM reads 4 - 5 volts, at both locations
the VCM is faulty.
If the DMM reads 0 volts at pin 8, the VCM is faulty.
If the DMM reads 0 volts at pin 2, the fault is in the harness.
