Selecting the final drive pinion gear shim
1. Select:

Final drive pinion gear shim thickness:

a = 92.5 mm

b = a numeral (usually a decimal number) on
c = a numeral (usually a decimal number) on

1) a = 92.5
2) If "98" is stamped on the final drive pinion
3) If "48" is stamped on the final drive pinion
4) If "03" is stamped on the final gear case,
5) Therefore, "A" is 0.97.
6) Round off the hundredth digit and select the

"A" = a + (c – b) – d
the final drive pinion gear bearing housing
either added to or subtracted from "34"
the final drive pinion gear bearing housing
either added to or subtracted from "55"

b = 34 + 0.98
= 34.98
gear bearing housing,
c = 55 + 0.48
= 55.48
d = 112 + 0.03
= 112.03
"A" = 92.5 + (55.48 – 34.98) – 112.03
= 0.97
appropriate shim(s).
In the example above, the calculated num-
ber is 0.97. The chart instructs you to round
off 7 to 5 at the hundredth place. Thus, the
shim thickness is 0.95 mm.
