8.3.2 Cleaning with a cleaning kit

The cleaning kit consists of cleaning and wiping sheets.
The cleaning kit does not come with the machine. It will be sent to the user upon request. For
details about the cleaning procedure using the cleaning kit, refer to the Cleaning Kit User's
Manual.
(1) Take the recording paper out of the DX paper tray #1.
(2) Moisten the sponge on the cleaning sheet with water sufficiently and slide a clean cloth on
the sponge from side to side about 10 times to wipe off excess water. If water splashes on
the sheet, wipe it off with a clean cloth.
Then set the cleaning sheet in the DX paper tray #1 with the sponge facing up and towards
the rear of the tray.
(3) Hold down the Shift and Stop/Exit keys simultaneously for more than three seconds.
The "Please wait" appears on the LCD and the rollers start rotating for cleaning. (This
operation takes approx. four minutes.)
(4) When the "Press Start Key" appears on the LCD, first take the cleaning sheet out of the DX
paper tray #1 and set the wiping sheet instead, and then press the Color Start or Black
Start (Mono Start) key.
Note: DO NOT press the Color Start or Black Start (Mono Start) key before
replacement of the sheet.
The "Please wait" appears on the LCD and the rollers start rotating for removing moisture.
(This operation takes approx. one minute.)
(5) When the "Press Start Key" appears on the LCD, first take the wiping sheet out of the DX
paper tray #1, make sure that the rollers are dry, load recording paper in the tray, and then
press the Color Start or Black Start (Mono Start) key.
The machine returns to the standby state.
(6) Make two or three copies in order to remove any remaining moisture and stain.
Notes
• Pressing the Stop/Exit or On/Off key or opening the scanner cover (scanner unit)
during the cleaning operation immediately quits the operation and returns to the
standby state. When the "Press Start Key" is displayed on the LCD, however, the
Stop/Exit and On/Off keys are disabled.
• If the registration sensor turns ON during the cleaning operation, the machine
immediately quits the operation and causes a paper jam error.
• The cleaning kit can be used several times.
• Before storing the cleaning sheet, wash stains off the sponge and dry it sufficiently.
• The number of cleaning operations performed is counted and saved in the memory.
To display the count, use Function code 80 (described in
the Equipment's Log (Function code 80)
• Printing when the rollers are wet may cause a paper jam. After cleaning, make sure
that the rollers are dry.
• If any ink empty message ("Cannot Print") appears on the LCD, this cleaning
function is disabled.
• The LT paper pull-in rollers (paper pick-up rollers) in the paper tray #2 require no
cleaning operation since they are not used in duplex printing.
