    Basic Operation Throttle Up Throttle up the power to your trackbypressingthetopendoftheThrottle Control Rocker Switch firmly for about 5 seconds, until theengine's headlight and lighted cars burn bright. Thenputtheengineintomotionbyfirmlypressingthe Directionbutton(holditforapproximately1second)on your remote once. If the engine does not begin to move as soon as you firmly press the Direction button,youmaynot have sent enough voltage to the track to makethetrainmove.

    Speed Control M.T.H. engines equipped with Loco-Sound have speedcontrol capabilities that allow the engine to maintainaconstantspeedupanddowngradesandaroundcurves, much like an automobile cruisecontrol. You can add or drop cars on the run, and the engine will maintainthespeedyouset. Whiletheengineisprogrammedtostartwiththespeedcontrolfeatureactivated,youcan opt to turn it off. This means theengine's speed will fall as it labors up a hill andincrease asittravelsdownward.

    Proto-Cast and Proto-Dispatch: Whenused with the remote lock-on included inthisset,Loco-Soundequippedengines ™ ™ gain Proto-Cast and Proto-Dispatch features Proto-Cast: Allows you to play audio recordings through your engine'sspeakers. You must supply theaudiosource(asmallportableCD/tapeplayeris sufficient) and a male-to-male mini cable (1/8"plug,likethatusedfor the headset with a portable CD/tape player)to connect your audio sourcetotheremotelock-on.

    If usingparalleltrackswithmultipleLoco-Soundequippedengines,Proto-Cast and Proto-Dispatch transmissions from one track may be picked upbytheothernearby engines. If you experience popping and interference whenusingProto-CastorProto-Dispatch, try cleaning the track with denatured alcoholas described in the "Cleaning theWheels,Tires andTrack" section of this booklet. NOTE: M.T.H. does not recommend using Proto-Cast and Proto-Dispatch at the same time.

    Maintenance Care of the Remote Control Toensuretrouble-free operation: Do not drop theremote. It candamagethedelicateelectronics inside. Remove batteries beforestoringforextendedperiods. AnyattemptbyanyoneotherthananauthorizedM.T.H.repairpersontoopenand repair the handheld transmitter or lock-on may resultindamageandthelossof warranty protection. If your train responds inconsistently,replace old batteries with freshones. Donot mixoldandnewbatteries. Lubrication Instructions The engine shouldbeoiledandgreasedinordertorunproperly.

    Cleaning the Wheels, Tires and Track Periodicallycheckthelocomotivewheelsandpickups for dirt and buildup, whichcancausepoorelectrical contact and traction andprematurely wear outthe neoprenetractiontires. Wheels and tires can be cleaned usingdenatured (not rubbing) alcohol applied with a cotton swab. Tocleanthetrack,useRailKingTrackCleaningFluid and a clean rag or denatured (notrubbing) alcohol. Unplug thetransformer and wipe the rails of the track, turning the rag frequently to ensurethatyouareusingcleanclothonthe rails.

    Add15-20Drops Add15-20Drops small pipette of ProtoSmoke fluidisincluded). Do SmokeFluid SmokeFluid not overfill the unitorthefluidmayleakoutandcoat the interior engine components. If youchoosenottoaddthefluid(orhavealready added the fluid but choose torunsmoke-free),turnoff the smoke unit switch located underthetender body.
