First Firing

Upon completing your gas line connection, a small amount
of air will be in the lines. When first lighting unit with pilot
light, it will take a few minutes to purge this air. Once the
purging is complete, the pilot and burner will light and op-
erate as indicated in the instruction manual. Subsequent
lightings of the heater will not require such purging.

Odor During Operation

Neither natural gas nor propane gas give off an odor
when burned. The nature of a vent free combustion
system, however, is such that odors may occasionally
be produced during heater operation when impurities
exist in the immediate area. Cleaning solutions, paint,
solvents, cigarette smoke, candles, adhesives, new car-
pet or textiles, etc., all can create fumes. These fumes
may mix with combustion air and can create odor. Such
odors will disappear over time, however, the condition
can be alleviated by opening a window or otherwise
providing additional ventilation to the area.

Flame Adjustment

For units equipped with Hi/Lo valves, flame adjustment
is accomplished by rotating the Hi/Lo adjustment knob
located near the center of the gas control. (Fig. 10)

It is important to periodically perform a visual check of
the pilot and the burner flames. Compare them to the
