Withthe ignitionkeyinthe NORMAL M OWING p osition, t he PTO (Blade
Engage) clutchwill automatically shutoff if the PTO (Blade Engage)lever is
movedintothe engaged (ON)positionwith the drivepedalin positionfor
reverse travel.
Donot operate the tractor if the interlock systemismalfunctioning. This
systemwasdesigned for yoursafety andprotection.
Engaging the ParkingBrake
Toengage the parkingbrake:
1.
Fullydepress t he brakepedal a ndholdit downwith yourfoot.
2.
Movethe speed controlleverall the waydown andinto the parkingbrake
position.
3.
Release t he brakepedalto allowthe parkingbrake to engage.
Toreleasethe parkingbrake:
1.
Depress t he brakepedal a ndmovethe speed controlleverout of the parking
brakepositionandintoadesired speed.
Settingthe Cutting Height
1.
Select t he heightpositionof the cuttingdeckbyplacingthe decklift leverin
anyof the differentcuttingheightnotches onthe right sideof thefender.
2.
Adjustthe deckwheelssothat theyarebetween14-inch and1/2-inch a bove
the groundwhenthe tractorisonasmooth, f lat surface such asa driveway.
To adjust Deck Wheels:
1.
Remove t he flangelocknut onthe shoulder bolt securing the deckwheel.
2.
Position the wheelto the desired heightaslistedabove. S eeFigure 8.

Secure the shoulder boltwith the flangelocknut.
Keephandsandfeet away from the dischargeopening of the cutting
deck.
NOTE: Thedeckwheels areananti-scalp featureof the deckandarenot designed
to supportthe weightof the cuttingdeck.Referto Leveling inthe Maintenance a nd
Service sectionof thismanual f ormoredetailedinstructions regarding various deck
adjustments.
Starting the Engine
Donotoperate the tractor if the interlock systemismalfunctioning. This
systemwasdesignedfor your safetyand protection.
NOTE: R efer t o the Gasoline andOilfill-up instructions earlierinthissection.
1.
Insertthe tractorkeyintothe ignitionswitch.
2.
Place the PTO (Blade Engage) l everinthe disengaged (OFF) position.
3.
Engage the tractor'sparkingbrake.
4.
Activatethe chokecontrolbymovingthe throttle/chokeleverall the wayup
intothe chokeposition.
5.
Turnthe ignitionkeyclockwise to the START p osition. A fterthe enginestarts,
release the key.It will returnto the ON(orNormal M owing)position.
DoNOThold the key in the START position for longer than ten seconds
at a time. Doingso may cause damage to your engine's electric
starter.
6.
Afterthe enginestarts,deactivate the chokecontrolandplacethethrottle
controlinthe FAST position.
NOTE: D oNOT leavethe chokecontrol o nwhileoperatingthe tractor.Doing sowill
resultina"rich"fuel mixtureandcause the engineto run poorly.
Stopping the Engine
If you strike a foreign object, stop the engine, disconnect the spark
plug wire(s) and ground against the engine. Thoroughly inspectthe
machine for any damage. Repairthe damage before restarting and
operating

Ifthe bladesareengaged, p lacethe PTO (BladeEngage) l everin the
disengaged (OFF) p osition.
2.
Turnthe ignitionkeycounterclockwise to the STOP p osition.
3.
Remove t he keyfromthe ignitionswitchto preventunintended starting.
Driving TheTractor
Avoidsuddenstarts, excessive speedand suddenstops.
Donotleavethe seatof the tractor without first placing the PTO (Blade
Engage) leverin the disengaged(OFF) p osition, d epressingthe brakepedal
andengaging the parkingbrake.If leaving the tractor unattended,also
turn the ignition keyoff and removethe key.
