    Chimney Smoke and Creosote Formation When wood is burned slowly, it produces tar and other organic vapours, which com- bine with expelled moisture to form creosote. The creosote vapours condense in the relatively cool chimney fl ue of a slow burning fi re. As a result, creosote residue accumulates on the fl ue lining.

    Operation CAUTION: Never use gasoline, gasoline type lantern fuel, kerosene, charcoal lighter fl uid or similar liquids to start or "freshen up" a fi re in this heater. Keep all such liquids well away from the heater while it is in use. CAUTION: Hot while in operation.

    Lighting a Fire WARNING: Never use chemicals or any other volatile liquid to start a fi re. 1. Adjust air control to “High” position(all the way to the left) and open door. 2. Place crumpled newspaper in the centre of the heater and criss-cross with several pieces of dry kindling.

    Disposal of Ashes Ashes should be placed in a metal container with a tight fi tting lid. The closed container of ashes should be placed outside on a non-combustible fl oor or on the ground, well away from all combustible materials, pending fi nal disposal. If the ashes are disposed of by burial in soil or otherwise locally dispersed, they should be retained in a closed container until all cinders have thoroughly cooled.
