To remove the starter from a Generac 22 kW generator:

1. Kill power to the unit and disconnect the battery.
2. You do not need to remove the housing panel.
3. Reach down the rear side of the generator and work by feel (blindly).
4. The starter is held in place by 13mm headed bolts; remove these bolts.
5. Be aware that on newer units, some shrouds may obstruct access, but this varies by model.
