INSTALLING THE PRINT SERVER NSTALLING THE RINT ERVER Turn off printer power. Attach the print server to the parallel connector on your printer (1). Secure the print server with the wire clips on the printer’s conncector. Plug the power adapter cord into the power jack on the print server.

MANAGEMENT METHODS NOTE In all cases, when you are connected, press RETURN or ENTER to get the "#" prompt, enter the password ACCESS (it will not echo) and type anything in response to the "Enter Username>" prompt. When the "Local>" prompt appears, the console is ready to accept commands.
MICROSOFT WINDOWS NETWORK CONFIGURATION ICROSOFT INDOWS ETWORK ONFIGURATION The following configuration procedures are designed for Windows 95/98/ME/2000/NT/XP/2003 Server operating systems. Insert the CD supplied with your print server, and then click on Install Software. Select TCP/IP Management Utilities, and then click on Next. Select ExtendView, and then click on Install.

MICROSOFT WINDOWS NETWORK CONFIGURATION Install. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete this installation. Install the printer driver software according to the documentation for the printer. Click the Windows Start button, select Settings, and then Printers (Start, then Printers and Faxes if you are using Windows XP).
APPLETALK NETWORK CONFIGURATION PPLE ETWORK ONFIGURATION The print server supports the AppleTalk protocol running over Ethernet (also known as EtherTalk). This capability allows Macintosh computers to print jobs to a printer simultaneously with jobs from Windows, UNIX, NetWare, and other computers. Print server AppleTalk capabilities allow a printer to appear as a shareable printer node on an AppleTalk Phase 2 network.

APPLETALK NETWORK CONFIGURATION NOTE The Applications folder can generally be reached by double-clicking on the Macintosh HD icon on the desktop. Turn on Ethernet and AppleTalk by clicking on the Applications folder and clicking on Network. Next to Configure: select Built-in Ethernet (you can leave the Location: setting as Automatic).

TROUBLESHOOTING If the self-test prints but you cannot print or you get distorted printouts, make sure that the printer is set for the correct Page Description Language. Also, verify that you have set up the drivers correctly on the workstation. HECKING THE NETWORK CONNECTION AND CABLING If the self-test page prints but you cannot print documents, first check the network connection and cabling.

TROUBLESHOOTING NTERMITTENT ROBLEMS If the print server and the printer start up, but you intermittently have problems printing, check the following: • Excessive NetWare polling can be a big cause of intermittent problems. Make sure that you have only enabled the NetWare file servers that you need for printing (do a SHOW NETWARE command from the print server console to see the enabled file servers).
TROUBLESHOOTING PPLE ROUBLESHOOTING If you cannot print from an AppleTalk for Macintosh computer, you have checked the hardware and network as described in the previous steps, then check the following: • Make sure that you are running Phase 2 AppleTalk and that you have selected the correct network interface from the Network Control Panel on the Macintosh.
