Within each service both manual and hot-line access modes are supported for channel activation. In addition to the standard Saturn B installation, the Enhanced Bitrate Module (EBM) consists of an Interface Converter Unit (ICU), and an external modem unit (Comtech CDM-550T).
  • Page 36: Interface Converter Unit - Icu

The ICU is either in normal mode (regular Inmarsat-B or Inmarsat CN17), or in EBM mode. In normal mode the Saturn B MCU is directly connected to the antenna RX and TX paths, and the Comtech CDM-550T Modem is disconnected.

  • Page 59 • During a manual call from ICU, an event such as rewind forces the Saturn B terminal to clear the channel causes the MCU to issue a ‘NO CARRIER’ result code to the ICU. The ICU then immediately disconnects the Comtech Modem from the antenna and reverts back to normal mode.
