    Preface Thank you for your purchase of the Q35SB industrial embedded motherboard. This design was based on the Intel® Q35 Express chipset (Blackford) providing the ideal platform to industrial applications. The Q35SB design is based on the Intel Pentium 4 processor in a LGA775 socket (FC- LGA4).

    Setting the Jumpers Jumper Types Jumpers or headers are small pins attached to the system board. Covering two pins with a shunt closes the connection between them. The Q35SB examines these jumpers to determine specific configuration information. There are two different categories of jumpers on the Q35SB. A.

    Jumper Location Use the diagram below and the tables on the following pages to locate and set the on-board configuration jumpers. AT/ATX (AT1) CMOS (JBAT1) COM2 MODE (JRS1)) AT1 – AT/ATX Power Mode This option allows the selection of the power type. Default is ATX (open).     Installing the CPU 1. Improper installation of the CPU may cause permanent damage to both the system board and the CPU. -- Void of warranty 2. Always handle the CPU by the edges, never touch the pins or pads. 3. Always use a heat-sink and a CPU fan. To properly install the processor, make sure to carefully follow these instructions: 1.

Align the processor with the socket (A). Align the processor notches (B) with the socket (C). Insert the processor into the socket without tilting. 5.

    Installing FAN(s) FAN Power Connector: CPUF1 This connector supports cooling fans of up to 350mA (4.2 Watts). 3 pin FANs will not be controllable and will be on full time. Connect the fan’s plug to the board taking into consideration the polarity of connector.

    If ATX soft-power is required, a cable has to be connected between EATX1 and the backplane, providing 5V Standby to the Q35SB, while allowing the board to send the PS-ON signal to the power supply.     Header & Connectors Serial-ATA2 Ports: (SATA1-SATA2 ) These connectors allow for the support of up to 2 SATA devices. It is preferable to use SATA-II certified cables. These cables easily connect to the motherboard and the SATA peripheral. External Audio: CN3 The optional AUDIO Daughter board gets connected to this header.

    Graphics Features Intel Q35 Graphics Subsystem The Intel Q35 chipset GMCH provides an integrated graphics device (IGD) delivering cost competitive 3D, 2D and video capabilities. The GMCH contains and extensive set of instructions for 3D operations, 2D operations, motion compensation, overlay, and display control.     Appendix C Flash BIOS Programming and Codes The Q35SB offers the standard FLASH BIOS. When installed, you will be able to update your BIOS without having to replace the EEPROM. The AMIBIOS8 will read the new BIOS file from a floppy disk during boot and replace the old BIOS.
