    ADVANCED.HARDWARE.FEATURES The DIR-140L can be connected to a cable or DSL line to share high-speed Internet access. It also doubles as a 4-port full-duplex 10/100 switch to connect up to four Ethernet-enabled devices, and you can simply add more switches to expand your wired network. In addition, you can create a Virtual Private Network (VPN) with the DIR-140L and allow up to 25 off-site or traveling users to securely access your central network through the Internet simultaneously.

When entering the IP address of the D-Link router (192.168.0.1 for example), you are not connecting to a website nor do you have to be connected to the Internet. The device has the utility built-in to a ROM chip in the device itself. Your computer must be on the same IP subnet to connect to the web-based utility.
