Setting the Flash

When taking pictures at night, indoors, or outdoors in heavy shadows, pictures
need flash. The flash has an effective range of 0.5 to 2.5 m (1.6 to 8.2 ft). When
taking Burst (page 14) pictures, the flash is automatically turned off.
NOTE: Because slow shutter speeds are used when the flash is
turned off in low light conditions, take care to avoid camera
shake. Use a tripod or place the camera on a steady surface.

With the camera on, turn the Mode dial

to Capture.
2 Press the Flash button.
While the LCD is on, press the Flash
button to scroll through and select the
correct flash icon. See the descriptions of
the icons below.
The Flash setting remains until changed.
m AUTO (no icon)—flash fires
automatically when needed.
m Red-Eye—flash fires once so the
subject's eyes become accustomed to
the flash, then fires again when the
picture is taken.
m Fill—flash fires every time you take a
picture, regardless of the lighting
conditions.
m Off—Flash does not fire. Ideal for
pictures where flash is prohibited.
