language (English) is selected, and subtitles are not

On some discs, this function may not operate as described
above.
If AUDIO and SUBTITLE differ or DISPLAY and ASS.SUBTIT
of the SUBTITLE are OFF, it is the same as turning it OFF.
But, changing settings during playback using "Selecting
Languages" (page 28) and "Selecting Subtitle Language"
(page 29) is possible.

A subtitle can be set while the subtitle is set to OFF.
SEL SUBTL: The selected subtitle language will be selected.
WITH AUDIO: The selected audio language will be selected.
When viewing software recorded in the wide mode, the
image's height to width ratio can be switched to match the
TV being used.
This player lets you change the audio output via PCM/
of the coaxial digital output jack. DVD conforms to both
Dolby Digital (three-dimensional sound for movies etc.) and
Linear PCM (digital sound with higher fidelity than CD) audio
standards.
96kHz: PCM audio discs with a 96kHz sampling frequency
can be played back at the 96kHz high quality sound setting
while 48kHz discs will be played back at 48kHz
48kHz: Discs with a 96kHz sampling frequency can be
played back at a compressed 48kHz with this setting and
48kHz discs will be played back at 48kHz
÷ When the audio sampling frequency recorded on the disc
is set as desired, output toggles between analog and
digital output
÷ When the 96KHz setting is selected for a disc with copy
protection, the signal is blocked from the digital output
terminal
