C. Belt Use & Tension
All riders will appreciate the many advantages of the modern belt drive system used on the Priority Bicycle. Not only is it completely
maintenance free and non-greasy to the touch, it is also feels a lot smoother and is more silent that a normal chain. The special hi-tech
construction of this belt ensures many years of easy, rust-free cycling without the need for maintenance or adjustment. Aggressive
riding or a sudden excessive force applied at the pedals by a stronger or heavier rider might cause the belt to skip a tooth which is
undesirable. This will not happen during normal cycling when a steady, even pressure is applied to the pedals.
NOTE BELT TENSION IS SET PROPERLY AT FACTORY AND SHOULD ONLY BE ADJUSTED AT THE ADVICE OF A TRAINED
PROFESSIONAL. THE BELT TENSION SHOULD BE APPROXIMATLY 20KGS AND THE WHEEL MUST BE PERFECTLY
CENTERED TO AVOID THE BELT COMING OFF.
1. Loosen the Shimano Nexus hub accessory with a 5mm allen wrench. Remove the hub accessory by pulling it straight off.
2. Remove the gear changing rod by pulling it straight out. Be careful to not bend this delicate part.
3. Loosen the 15mm nuts on the back wheel. (You do not need to take these completely off.)
4. Loosen the Philips screw that holds the rear coaster brake arm. You may need to hold the 10mm nut with a wrench. (You also do not
need to take this completely off.)
5. Now loosen or tighten the 4mm bolts that tension the rear wheel as needed.
Note: You should loosen and, or tighten both sides an even amount to keep the wheel in line and centered.
6. The belt tension is a little tough to explain. If you "pluck" the belt like you would a guitar string, there should be a low tone. It should
not be a high tone. It should also not be a dull thud. If it loosened to the "Dull Thud" area, then slowly tightened, you should stop when
it starts making a low tone. If the belt is too loose it might skip. If the belt is too tight you will feel flat spots when pedaling.
7. Follow steps 4 through 1 in reverse to re-secure the rear wheel.
