Open a connection on a serial port.

The default command prompt on your WSS shows your switch's model number
and also contains the last three octets of the switch's MAC address. For example,
the default command prompt on a 2360 switch with MAC address
00:0B:0E:00:04:0A is WSS-2360-00040A>.

Verify that the WSS is powered on.

Verify that the serial cable is fully inserted in the PC and WSS ports.

Verify that the correct modem settings are configured in the terminal emulation application:
• 9600 bps
• 8 bits
• 1 stop
• No parity
• Hardware flow control off or disabled

Verify that you opened the connection on the PC port connected to the WSS.
For example, if you inserted the cable in PC port COM1, make sure you open the connection on COM1
instead of COM2 or another port.
If none of the previous steps results in a management connection, use another serial cable.
