    DC power and reduces the voltage supplied to this computer.     Do not close the display panel with pens or any other objects left in between the display panel and the keyboard. When opening or closing the display panel, place one hand on the palm rest to hold the computer in place and use the other hand to slowly open or close the display panel (Do not use excessive force when opening or closing the display panel).

Getting to know the Start screen The Windows 8 Start screen provides you a new and easy way to access your favorite things, such as apps, websites and contacts.     Restarting the computer Certain conditions require that you reset the computer, for example if: You change certain computer settings. An error occurs and the computer does not respond to your keyboard commands.     Please note that keyboard keys can only be used if the Wake- up on Keyboard option is enabled within the TOSHIBA System Settings. If the computer enters Sleep Mode while a network application is active, the application might not be restored when the computer is next turned on and the system returns from Sleep Mode.

    Hibernation Mode The Hibernation Mode feature saves the contents of memory to the Hard Disk Drive when the computer is turned off so that, the next time it is turned on, the previous state is restored. Please note that the Hibernation Mode feature does not save the status of any peripheral devices connected to the computer.

    LAN jack This jack lets you connect to a LAN. The adaptor has built-in support for Ethernet LAN (10 megabits per second, 10BASE-T) or Fast Ethernet LAN (100 megabits per second, 100BASE-TX). Refer to Operating Basics, for details. Do not connect any cable other than a LAN cable to the LAN jack. It could cause damage or malfunction.

    White Indicates the AC adaptor is connected and the battery is fully charged. No light Under any other conditions, the indicator does not light. If the battery pack becomes too hot while it is being charged, the charge will stop and the DC IN/Battery indicator will go out. When the battery pack's temperature falls to a normal range, charging will resume - this process will occur regardless of whether the computer's power is on or off.

    Chapter 4 Operating Basics This chapter describes the basic operations of your computer, highlights the precautions that should be taken when using it. The Keyboard The computer’s keyboard layouts are compatible with a 104/105-key enhanced keyboard - by pressing some keys in combination, all of the 104/105-key enhanced keyboard functions can be performed on the computer.

    Microphone Level Follow the steps below to change the microphone recording level. Right click on the speaker icon on the Taskbar, and select Recording devices from the sub menu.
