    Caring for your device As with any electronic device, Ovation MC990D must be handled with care to ensure reliable operation. Novatel Wireless recom- mends the following handling guidelines: Do not apply adhesive labels to the device; they may cause the device to potentially overheat and they may alter the perfor- mance of the antenna.

    Before pluggng the MC990D into your computer, insert the (U)SIM card supplied by your service provider. Insert the SIM card into the Ovation MC990D slot as shown below. Push the SIM card completely into the slot.

    Install MobiLink Lite Insert the MC990D into your laptop’s USB port. MobiLink Lite automatically installs. Activate your device with a service provider and create a pro- fi le (see Creating Profi les). Launch MobiLink Lite and connect as described in Confi gure MC990D.

    Confi gure Ovation MC990D You can confi gure your mobile broadband device to automatically connect to the network when you power up your system or manu- ally connect and disconnect using the Connect/Disconnect button in the main window. You can also employ a PIN code to unlock your mobile broadband device on startup.
  • Page 18 To introduce a PIN code to unlock your notebook computer, select the Auto-Lock On Power Up check box and enter the PIN code in the Pin Code box. To change the PIN code, click the Change Pin Code... button to open the Change Pin Code dialog box, enter the current PIN code in the Current Code box and the new code in the New Code and New Code Confi rm boxes, and click OK.

    MC990D and reviews how to use accessories for your device. Inserting the device When you connect Ovation MC990D, the following may occur once the device has been confi gured correctly: The device is powered as soon as you connect it to the Type A USB (version 2.0) port of your computing device.

    Ovation MC990D is equipped with removable, hot-swappable, memory storage. The convenience of this feature enables you to connect to the Internet, access your corporate VPN on the fl y and store precious data simultaneously to an external drive without the need of another fl ash drive.

In the Save in box, click the down arrow to view the contents of the drop-down menu. Select the MC990D, which typically appears as a removable storage device with an assigned drive letter as identifi cation.

  • Page 31 Composing and sending messages An SMS message can contain up to 465 alphabetic or numeric char- acters and cannot contain any images or graphics. A message over 160 characters will be divided into multiple messages. Your carrier may reduce the character limit when sending multiple messages. To compose an SMS message Right-click on the MobiLink Lite icon in the system tray and se- lect SMS Client from the popup menu to open the SMS Client.

    Overview Connecting to the network requires a unique set of connection settings. You may have more than one connection account if you are traveling throughout Europe, each with its own settings (e.g., France, Germany, UK, etc). A profi le is a complete set of connection information required for connecting to the network in the country in which you are traveling.

    Creating profi les Your service provider can assist you in making the correct selections for your new profi le. To create a profi le Right-click on the MobiLink icon in the system tray, and select Settings > Profi le Manager from the popup menu.

    Please check for data cover- age with your service provider. MobiLink Lite status is “No Card Detected” Make sure that no other software programs are open that may be using the Ovation MC990D broadband device.
  • Page 55 I cannot connect to the Internet Your software may be incorrectly installed. Check that you have correctly installed the MobiLink Lite software located on the CD that came with the product. You may not have an active subscription plan. Check that you have an active subscription plan from your service provider and have activated the service.
