Before you get started... the basics THE BASICS: Fusion’s Premiere Movie Server is as easy to install and use as a standard DVD player. There are, however, a few ways to hook it up, depending on the components you have in your entertainment system.
  • Page 5 TV. Note: If you are plugging into a receiver that is powering more than 2 speakers (surround sound), you will want to change your audio setting on the movie server to “HDMI - Surround Sound”. Premiere Movie Server Installation Manual...
  • Page 6 HDMI to component adapter. You can purchase one of these by calling Fusion Research at 925-217-1233 and asking for an FR-COM, if you require a composite or S-Video input, please let us know, we also have an adapter for these as well.

After the server has completely restarted (one full minute), power on the receiver and TV and check for correct video output. If your equipment maintains its EDID properly the video will be fine.

Once you have all the connections in place, power the system on and you should see the screen below. Note: Fusion may have pre-installed 1 or 2 movies in its prep for shipment To complete the setup of the system, use the supplied IR remote and hit the i button to bring up the following screen.
  • Page 11 REMOTE CONTROL FUNCTIONS: Fusion servers and players ship with supplied generic media center IR re- motes. Fusion is not a media center product, we’ve merely shared the IR codes, making the use of many types of remotes possible. These remotes can be used for controlling the system, however their main purpose is to help you setup a universal-type IR remote or IP control system.
  • Page 12: Required Software

Setting up your Premiere Movie Server REQUIRED SOFTWARE: This Fusion system has been designed to store home movies and unencrypted DVD & Blu-ray movies. Fusion does not condone any other use for this product and suggests owners should respect the copyrights of oth- ers.
  • Page 13 In no event shall Fusion or its resellers be liable for any losses dues to illegal use of this product or any incidental, exemplary, special, or consequential damages regardless of whether Fusion was advised of the possibility of such damages.
  • Page 14 You’ll want to do this when the GUI is larger than the display itself, (i.e. a Plasma display). TechTip: Fusion does something unique by decoupling the GUI (the movie interface) from the video playback engine (the movie itself). This enables the user to set the GUI separately. You’d want to use this when setting up a server in a projector system with an anamorphic lens and a 2.35-1 ratio screen.
  • Page 15 Chapter 2 Setting up your Premiere Movie Server An example of a Fusion GUI stretched for a 2.35-1 screen VIDEO PLAYBACK ADJUSTMENTS: It is rare to need to adjust the underscan of the actual video playback engine, but should you require it, navigate to [Main Menu]/[Set Up Menu]/ [Set Up Video].
  • Page 16: Audio Setup

Chapter 2 Setting up your Premiere Movie Server AUDIO SETUP: You may set the audio outputs for DVD and Blu-ray playback separately. However, a simple “audio wizard” has been created to allow you to set everything at once. Go to [Main Menu], select [Set Up Menu]/[Machine]/[Set Up Audio].

Setting up your Premiere Movie Server SETTING THE IP ADDRESS: Your Fusion server has shipped with a Dynamic IP setting. Every time the system is powered on, it will acquire an available IP address. If you are us- ing only one server (no additional zone players) and an IR remote to control the server, you may leave it on dynamic.
  • Page 18: Chapter 3: Loading Movies On A Fusion Server

Loading movies onto a Fusion server TWO WAYS TO LOAD MOVIES ONTO A FUSION SYSTEM: There are two primary ways to load movies onto a Fusion server. 1. Loading a DVD or Blu-ray directly in the front of the server 2.
  • Page 19 Chapter 3 Loading movies onto a Fusion server After the movie has been found in Fusion’s database, the following screen will offer you several options: 1. Play the physical disc 2. Import 3. Eject the disc As mentioned earlier, if no command has been issued after 30 seconds, the system will automatically import the disc.
  • Page 20 If you’ve loaded a disc and no cover art or metadata is found, a report is sent Fusion’s headquarters. We have a team of people who correct the movie information in the database. A general rule of thumb is to give us 3-5 business days to correct the information.
  • Page 21 If it is not marked, it will probably be all regions. Multiple regions can be imported and played back in a Fusion system, but care should be taken during the loading process to ensure that it is loaded correctly or the disc will not play back.
  • Page 22 TechTip: The client will need to have AnyDVD HD loaded on their PC before they can import their movies. The same registration key should be valid for both the Fusion server and their PC. Before importing, please ensure that the importing computer and the Fusion server on the same network! Make sure that AnyDVD HD is activated on the computer;...
  • Page 23 DVD format and that the DVD has been finalized during the creation process. Unfinalized media may not be able to be recognized correctly by the Fusion Server. Please note that since created home movies will not have any form of identification on them it will require the use of the Fusion Movie Manager to customize the metadata.
  • Page 24 Navigating your Fusion System THE FUSION GRAPHICAL USER INTERFACE (GUI): The EPIC platform is Fusion’s most advanced and powerful interface to- date. Years in the making, this system allows you to quickly and easily navigate your collection and find what you wish to watch. In this chapter we’ll cover the basics of the EPIC interface.
  • Page 25 This is ideal if you’re not sure what you want to watch but want more information as you peruse. (Note: You will not be able to start a movie from the sidebar, you will still need to click [OK] to bring up the movie.) Premiere Movie Server Installation Manual...

SEARCH, SORT, FILTER AND JUMP: There are several ways you can choose to find movies rather than simply scrolling through your entire collection. Many of Fusion’s users have col- lections in the thousands of titles and that can be cumbersome. Here are several ways to refine your search for that movie that is just right for you!
  • Page 27: Filtering Options

When you select keyword, an on-screen keyboard will pop up and you can type in any phrase you’d like. The system will search the entire movie da- tabase for that phrase including things like titles, actors, directors, movie synopsis etc. Premiere Movie Server Installation Manual...

  • Page 29 TechTip: Because there isn’t clear information on what episodes are on specific releases of individual series discs, to begin with the only series that will have this feature are series discs that Fusion has mapped in their facility. As time passes, this will become more and more prevalent.
  • Page 30 TV EPISODE START POINTS: TV Series start points cannot be created without the physical disc to mark the beginning of each episode. Fusion’s database service has preset these start points on many hundreds of TV series, but there will be many more without them, at least as the service gets started.
  • Page 31 [Pause] button. Now select the [Set Start of Program] option and your movie will always start from that point. Note: The series feature and movie start points are not currently avail- able on blu-ray discs. Premiere Movie Server Installation Manual...
  • Page 32 PAUSING AND PICKING UP IN ANOTHER ZONE: The Fusion system remembers the last point at which you stopped every movie. Stop a movie half-way through and you are able to pick it up at that exact same spot later on that week. If you have more than one zone, you may wish to stop it in one location and pick it up in another.
  • Page 33 Now escape out of the menus and you have new names for your zones! SETTING PARENTAL RATINGS ON THE SYSTEM: The final thing you may wish to customize on your Fusion system, is which movies you wish to show at all times. The most typical use of this will be for parents who do not wish their children to have access to the higher rated films when they are left alone.
  • Page 34 TechTip: The parental ratings are set by individual zones. So if you’ve got a multi-zone Fusion system, you’ll want to set up each server and player individually. Premiere Movie Server Installation Manual...
  • Page 35 Once you are on the “Unlock Rating” screen you’ll be asked to enter the password you had previously assigned during the set up phase. Enter that password and you can choose how long you would like the re- striction on the movies to be lifted. Premiere Movie Server Installation Manual...
  • Page 36: Chapter 5: Managing You Movie Collection

.Net Framework is a free application that you can get from Microsoft’s website. Download the utility onto a PC that is on the same network as the Fusion server and you will be able to manage your movie collections. Open the utility and the first step will be to connect to the server.
  • Page 37 find all the correct information. You can email Fusion and let us know that specific information on a disc is not correct and we can go right in and correct it on the main Fusion database. (Email is dvd_movie@fusionrd.com) You may also choose to correct that information yourself.

  • Page 39: Advanced Tab

ADVANCED TAB: The “Advanced” tab has several items you may wish to customize. The most common one is the MPAA (User) rating. Whenever the Fusion system is sorting or filtering movies by rating, it will use the MPAA (User) rating.
  • Page 40 This gives you an up to the minute report on exactly how much storage you have available on all storage servers on the system. This is especially useful when you have a Fusion Storage License and third-party NAS connected for large collections.
  • Page 41: Adding Additional Zone Players

You will now have another completely indepen- dent stream from the server. TechTip: Similar to the Fusion server, we highly recommend setting a static IP for your player, including all gateway and DNS information. Refer to this manual for setting a static IP.
  • Page 42: Chapter 7: Adding Additional Storage Capacity

Attached Storage (NAS) to be added to the system. A license must be purchased from Fusion in order to allow these NAS to work with a system. If you need to purchase a NAS, contact Fusion at (925) 217-1233 or email info@fusionrd.com.
