Memory options

IBM DDR3 memory is compatibility tested and tuned for optimal System x performance and throughput.
IBM memory specifications are integrated into the light path diagnostics for immediate system
performance feedback and optimum system uptime. From a service and support standpoint, IBM memory
automatically assumes the IBM system warranty, and IBM provides service and support worldwide.
The x3100 M4 has four DIMM slots, and only DDR3 ECC UDIMMs are supported. The CPU has two
memory channels, and there are two DIMMs per channel.
Configuration rules:
If more than one DIMM is planned to be installed, then DIMMs must be installed in a pair, and both
DIMMs in a pair must be identical in type and size.
The servers support 1.35V DIMMs but operate these DIMMs at 1.5V. 1.35 V and 1.5 V DIMMs cannot
be intermixed.
Models with Intel Xeon E3-1200 v2 series processors support DIMMs operating at up to 1600 MHz
provided the processors support this memory speed and all DIMMs installed are rated at 1600 MHz.
The following table lists the memory options supported by the server.
