Upgrading the Version (Rewriting the Firmware)
Move to the directory where RS96. EXE is located, and confirm that the "Size during execution" is in the "Maximized state" setting
using the property setting of RS96. EXE. Then execute the RS96. EXE.
When the prompt "RS232C [9600] N>" appears, press [Enter]. The following message appears:
ISYSI ER: Illegal Command!
The first [SYS] means that the machine is in the rewriting mode of the system control microprocessor.
The rewriting mode has two modes:
[SYS] Mode
The mode to rewrite the system control microprocessor
[AV] Mode
The mode to rewrite the A,/V control microprocessor
To rewrite the A./V control microprocessor, enter and press as follows:
AV [Enter]
to switch the rewriting mode to the [AV] Mode.
To rewrite the system control microprocessor, enter and press as follows:
SYS [Enter]
to switch the rewriting mode to the [SYS] Mode.
When the desired mode is selected (it must be confirmed by the display), enter and press as follows:
bootm [Enter]
Then the version upgrading starts and the following display appears.

l**x,k*****'k***
Indicates how far the rewriting is completed.
When a chain of asterisk marks +**+*{< reaches the end, the message " bootm succeeded" is displayed and the prompt RS96 appears, the
rewriting is complete.
Confirming the Rewriting
You can confirm if the system control microprocessor is correctly rewritten after the above described process is completed.
The A./V control microprocessor cannot be confirmed of the rewriting.
Confirm if the flash ROM is correctly rewritten in step 4.
The message "bootm succeeded" will appear at step 4 even though the data becomes erroneous during serial communication so that the
wrong data is written into the flash ROM.
In order to verify if the system control microprocessor is correctly rewritten, start up the version upgrading mode again (while pressing
the OPEN key, connect the DC-IN plug), and use the "inquiry" command.
Enter and press as follows:
inquiry [Enter]
When the version number that you have intended to write, appears as shown below, the rewriting is successfully completed.

[SYS] SYS-con Check Sum error! Do bootm with SYS mode.
Ifthe above message appears, the rewriting has failed. Find the causes and try again from the beginning.
The possible causes of failure are as follows:
. The data become erroneous during the serial communication.
. Leads of the flash ROM have the poor (hollow) soldering.
o Leads ofthe microprocessors have the poor (hollow) soldering.
To confirm the version number and to confirm rewriting, set up the TEST mode, not the version upgrading mode, and connect the DC IN
plug. Turn the power on at the test mode, Enter and press as follows:
versionav [Enter]
When the version number that you have intended to write, appears as shown below, the rewriting is successfully completed.
