3.10 Converting Scanned Images into Searchable PDF
Files
This section describes how to convert scanned images into searchable PDF file format through
OCR (Optical Character Recognition).
You can use the OCR function of ABBYY FineReader for ScanSnap supplied with the scanner to
extract character information from the scanned images and convert it to character format to pro-
duce a searchable PDF file.
■ Operations from the "Scan and Save Settings" window
Operation
1. Click and hold down the mouse button over the ScanSnap Manager icon in the Dock
menu, and confirm that the "Use Quick Menu" is unchecked. If it is checked, click
"Use Quick Menu" to uncheck it.
2. Click and hold down the mouse button over the ScanSnap Manager icon in the Dock
menu, and click the "Settings..." menu. Select the [Application] tab in the "Scan and
Save settings" window. Select "ABBYY Scan2PDF" from the [Application:] list and
press [OK].
3. Load the document on ScanSnap and press [SCAN] button.
The document is scanned and converted. The converted data is saved in the folder speci-
fied by the [Save] tab on "Scan and Save Settings" window.
■ Operations in Quick Menu
Operation
1. Click and hold down the mouse button over the ScanSnap Manager icon in the Dock
menu, and confirm that "Use Quick Menu" is checked. If it is unchecked, click "Use
Quick Menu" to check it.
2. Load the document on the ScanSnap.
