Tailored-rolled blanks, which have variable rolled
wall thicknesses, have particular advantages.
They can be used to produce continuous material
thickness transitions which meet the local stress
conditions. This technique is used to optimize the
front longitudinal member structure.
In total, a weight reduction of 8 kg (without add-on
parts) was realized through the material selection
being adapted to the respective stress conditions.
An additional weight reduction of 9 kg was realized
by using blanks with different wall thicknesses.
