  • Page 14 Provide adequate ventilation Always make sure your computer and AC adaptor have adequate ventilation and are protected from overheating when the power is turned on or when an AC adaptor is connected to a power outlet (even if your computer is in Sleep Mode). In this condition, observe the following: Never cover your computer or AC adaptor with any object.

    Heat injury Avoid prolonged physical contact with the computer. If the computer is used for long periods, its surface can become very warm. While the temperature will not feel hot to the touch, if you maintain physical contact with the computer for a long time, for example if you rest the computer on your lap or if you keep your hands on the palm rest, your skin might suffer a low-heat injury.

    Make sure all disk/disc activity has ended before moving the computer. Turn off (shut down) the computer. Disconnect the AC adaptor and all peripherals before moving the computer.     Some of the features described in this manual may not function properly if you use an operating system that was not pre-installed by TOSHIBA. Equipment checklist Carefully unpack your computer, taking care to save the box and packaging materials for future use.

    Right-click Click the right Touch Pad control button once. Right click the mouse once. Press and hold on the touch screen (only for touch screen models). Double-click Tap the Touch Pad or click the left Touch Pad control button twice. Left click the mouse twice.

    DC power and reduces the voltage supplied to this computer.     Do not close the display panel with pens or any other objects left in between the display panel and the keyboard. When opening or closing the display panel, place one hand on the palm rest to hold the computer in place and use the other hand to slowly open or close the display panel (Do not use excessive force when opening or closing the display panel).

    Do not turn the computer or peripheral devices back on immediately - wait a short period to avoid any potential damage. If you need to restart the computer, there are two ways this can be achieved: In the Settings charm, click Power and then select Restart.

    Please note that keyboard keys can only be used if the Wake- up on Keyboard option is enabled within the TOSHIBA System Settings. If the computer enters Sleep Mode while a network application is active, the application might not be restored when the computer is next turned on and the system returns from Sleep Mode.

    Hibernation Mode The Hibernation Mode feature saves the contents of memory to the Solid State Drive when the computer is turned off so that, the next time it is turned on, the previous state is restored. Please note that the Hibernation Mode feature does not save the status of any peripheral devices connected to the computer.
  • Page 29 Automatic Hibernation Mode The computer can be configured to enter Hibernation Mode automatically when you press the power button or close the lid. In order to define these settings, you can follow the steps as described below: Click Power Options and then click Choose what the power button does or Choose what closing the lid does.

    DC IN 19V jack The AC adaptor connects to this jack in order to power the computer and charge its internal batteries. Please note that you should only use the model of AC adaptor supplied with the computer at the time of purchase - using the wrong AC adaptor can cause damage to the computer.

    Memory media slot This slot lets you insert an SD™/SDHC™/ SDXC™ memory card, miniSD™/microSD™ Card, and MultiMediaCard™. Refer to the Memory media section for more information. Keep foreign metal objects, such as screws, staples and paper clips, out of the Memory media slot. Foreign metal objects can create a short circuit, which can cause damage and fire, possibly resulting in serious injury.

Monitoring of power conditions Power conditions The computer's operating capability and battery charge status are affected by different power conditions, including whether an AC adaptor is connected and what the charge level is for that battery.

    Chapter 4 Operating Basics This chapter describes the basic operations of your computer, highlights the precautions that should be taken when using it. Using the Touch Screen Some models are equipped with a touch screen. You can use your finger to manipulate icons, buttons, menu items, the onscreen keyboard, and other items on the touch screen.

    Charge the battery pack only in an ambient temperature between 5 and 35 degrees Celsius. Otherwise, the electrolyte solution might leak, battery pack performance might deteriorate and the battery life might be shortened.
