MAKING A RECORDED DISC PLAYABLE ON
A STANDARD CD PLAYER (FINALIZATION)
What is finalization?
÷ Finalization is the last process in recording a CD-R to
allow the disc to be played on a standard CD player. (CD-
RW discs whether finalized or not can only be played on
a CD-RW player and not on a standard CD player).
÷ Once a disc is finalized recording or skip ID
manipulation is no longer possible. Please ensure the
disc is in its final form before commencing
finalization.
÷ If the power supply is interrupted during finalization,
the disc may be unusable.
Finalization procedure
1
Load a recorded (but not finalized) CD-R or CD-
RW disc.
÷ Ensure that there are no scratches, dust or marks on the disc. If
there are any marks clean the disc. (As described on page 22.)
2
Press the FINALIZE button. The unit enters the
record-pause mode.
÷ The displayed time for finalization varies depending on the
disc.
÷ Finalization can be canceled by pressing the STOP button.
÷ The process will be canceled automatically if no further
actions are taken within 10 minutes.
3
Press the 8 (PAUSE) button to start the
finalization procedure.
÷ The time finalization will take to complete is displayed.
Usually within about 4 minutes.
÷ When CD-R finalization is complete the display changes from
the CD-R indicator to the CD indicator, and the unit enters
stop mode.
÷ When CD-RW finalization is complete the display shows the
CD-RW and FINALIZE indicators, and the unit enters stop
mode.
CAUTION:
÷ Once the finalization process has started no other
operation is possible.
÷ If the disc is marked or scratched, the finalization
process may not be completed.
If the finalization process is not complete within 10
minutes the operation can be cancelled by pressing the
STOP button. The disc will not be finalized and will not play
in a normal CD player.
÷ NEVER disconnect the power during finalization.
If the power supply is interrupted during finalization, when
the power is re-applied the finalization will resume.
"RESUME" will be displayed until finalization is complete.
In some cases the disc may not complete the finalization
process.
