The configuration of your controller decides the way you use the
RAID. This chapter guides you through ways of using RAID
according to the number of disk drives you installed.
If you have installed three new disk drives go to Application 1. If you have installed two new
disk drives go to Application 2. If you have installed one drive with data and one new disk drive
go to Application 3.
Application 1: Three new disk drives.
1. Lock all drive carriers and they are ready for use.
2. If you have installed non-identical hard disk drives, your computer will recognize the
ACS-76500/76510 as a single hard disk with a capacity equal to the smaller hard disk
drive installed in the ACS-76500/76510.
The status of all indicators during boot-up:
Be sure to put three hard disks into the three drive carriers while the ACS-76500/76510 is
booting, and lock it before powering on. Then you will see the indicators light up as follows:
The green Disk Activity LEDs of the three drive carriers light up except the amber ones. The
red LED of the spare disk (for backup) starts flashing slowly (The third hard disk is set to be
the spare disk by default).
Application 2: Two new disk drives.
1.
Install the second hard disk and it is ready for use after being locked. Make sure you
have installed the first hard disk, which serves as a source disk.
2.
If you have installed non-identical hard disk drives, your computer will recognize the
ACS-76500/76510 as a single hard disk with a capacity equal to the smaller hard disk
drive installed in the ACS-76500/76510.
The status of all indicators during boot-up:
Be sure to put three hard disks into the three drive carriers while the ACS-76500/76510 is
booting, and lock it before powering on. Then you will see the indicators light up as follows:
The green Disk Activity LEDs of the three drive carriers light up except for the amber and red
ones. The red LED of empty carrier will light up, indicating only RAID 1 instead of the backup
function is available.
