  • Page 16 THE QUANTUM 600E The Quantum 600E has two main assemblies: the seat assembly and the power base assembly. See figure 5. Typically, the seat assembly includes the armrests, seatback, and seat base. The power base assembly includes two motor/brake assem- blies, two drive wheels, four caster wheels, two batteries, and wiring harnesses.

The batteries and the motors are located on the power base assembly. The controller is located on the seat assembly. Connectivity between the control- ler and the motors and the batteries is provided by a controller cable.

    The following adjustment instructions are for contour seating. If your power chair is equipped with an optional seating system, refer to the information provided in separate manuals. WARNING! If your power chair was configured by your Quantum Rehab Specialist, please consult your healthcare professional before making any adjustment that may degrade your power chair’s performance and safety by changing its center of gravity.

    BATTERIES AND CHARGING The Quantum 600E uses two long-lasting, 12-volt, deep-cycle batteries. These batteries are sealed and maintenance free. Since they are sealed, there is no need to check the electrolyte (fluid) level. Deep-cycle batteries are designed to handle a longer and deeper discharge.
  • Page 30 (e.g., an automotive battery charger). NOTE: Your power chair’s charger will not operate after the batteries have been discharged to nearly zero voltage. If this happens, call your Quantum Rehab Specialist for assistance. How often must I charge the batteries? Many factors come into play when deciding how often to charge the batteries.

  • Page 34 The speed setting or drive profile is displayed on the maximum speed/profile indicator. If your power chair was programmed with a drive profile, contact your Quantum Rehab Specialist for more information.
  • Page 35 4. Release the joystick. There should be a long beep. 5. The VSI is now unlocked. NOTE: If the above procedure fails to either lock or unlock the VSI, contact your Quantum Rehab Specialist. Off-board Charger/Programming Socket The off-board charger/programming socket is located on the front of the VSI. If you use an off-board charger, the charger current should not exceed 8 amps.

    M A I N T E N A N C E CARE AND MAINTENANCE Your Quantum 600E is a sophisticated power chair. Like any motorized vehicle, it requires routine maintenance checks. You can perform some of these checks, but others require assistance from your Quantum Rehab Specialist. Preventive maintenance is very important.
  • Page 38 ! Ensure that all parts of the controller system are securely fastened to your power chair. Do not overtighten any screws. ! Check for proper tire inflation. There should be 35 psi (2.4 bar) in each tire. If a tire does not hold air, see your Quantum Rehab Specialist for replacement of the tube.
  • Page 39 Your power chair must be disposed of according to applicable local and national statutory regulations. Contact your local waste disposal agency or Quantum Rehab Specialist for information on proper disposal of power chair packaging, metal frame components, plastic components, electronics, and batteries.
