Answering system
Problem
The unit does not record new
messages.
The other party complains that they
cannot leave a message.
I cannot operate the answering
system with the handset.
When I try to operate the
answering system with the base
unit, {s} flashes for a few
seconds and I cannot operate the
answering system.
I cannot operate the answering
system remotely.
While recording a greeting
message or listening to messages,
the unit rings and recording stops.

Cause & solution
L The answering system is turned off. Turn it on (page
45).
L The recording time is set to "Greeting Only".
Select "1 Minute" or "3 Minutes" (page 49).
L If you subscribe to the voice mail service,
messages are recorded by your service
provider/telephone company not your telephone.
Change the unit's "Number of Rings" setting so
that the unit's answering system can answer the
call before the voice mail service or consult your
service provider/telephone company (page 49).
L The recording time is set to "Greeting Only".
Select "1 Minute" or "3 Minutes" (page 49).
L The base unit or another handset is being used.
Wait for the other user to finish.
L A caller is leaving a message. Wait for the caller to
finish.
L The handset is too far from the base unit. Move
closer.
L Another handset is being used. Wait for the other
user to finish.
L A caller is leaving a message. Wait for the caller to
finish.
L You are entering the wrong remote access code. If
you forget the remote access code, store a new
remote access code and try again (page 47).
L You are pressing the dial keys too quickly. Press
each key firmly.
L The answering system is turned off. Turn it on (page
48).
L You are using a pulse telephone. Try again using a
touch tone phone.
L A call is being received. Answer the call and try
again later.
