TRACTOR
Al ways ob serve safe ty rules when per form ing any main-
te nance.
BRAKE OPERATION
If trac tor re quires more than six (6) feet stop ping dis tance
at high speed in high est gear, then brake must be ad just ed.
(See "TO ADJUST BRAKE" in the Service and Ad just ments
section of this manual).
TIRES
Maintain proper air pressure in all tires (See "PROD UCT
SPEC I FI CA TIONS" section of this man ual).
Keep tires free of gasoline, oil, or insect control chemi-
cals which can harm rubber.
Avoid stumps, stones, deep ruts, sharp objects and
other hazards that may cause tire damage.
NOTE: To seal tire punctures and prevent fl at tires due to
slow leaks, tire sealant may be purchased from your local
parts dealer. Tire sealant also prevents tire dry rot and
corrosion.

OPERATOR PRESENCE SYSTEM

Be sure operator presence and interlock sys tems are work-
ing properly. If your tractor does not function as described,
repair the problem immediately.
The engine should not start unless the clutch/brake
pedal is fully depressed and attachment clutch control
is in the disengaged position.
When the engine is running, any attempt by the op er a tor
to leave the seat without fi rst setting the parking brake
should shut off the engine.
When the engine is running and the at tach ment clutch
is engaged, any attempt by the operator to leave the
seat should shut off the engine.
The attachment clutch should never operate unless
the operator is in the seat.
When the engine is running and the bagger or optional
defl ector are not installed the mower should not op-
er ate.
BLADE CARE (See Fig. 19)
For best results mower blades must be kept sharp. Replace
bent or damaged blades.

IMPORTANT: THE BLADES ON YOUR MOW ER ARE NOT THE
SAME AND MUST BE INSTALLED ON THE CORRECT SIDE. IT
IS SUG GEST ED THAT YOU WORK ON ONE BLADE AT A TIME
TO ENSURE PROP ER ASSEMBLY OF COMPONENTS.
5 STAR PATTERN BLADE (See Fig. 20)
The center of this blade has a fi ve (5) star pattern. The bolt
that attaches this blade has nor mal Right Hand threads
that loosens by turn ing ( ) counterclockwise and tight ens
by turning ( ) clockwise.

6 STAR PATTERN BLADE (See Fig. 21)
The center of this blade has a 6 star pattern. The bolt at-
tach ing this blade has Left Hand threads that loosens by
turning ( ) clockwise and tight en by turning ( ) coun ter -
clock wise.

Raise mower to highest position to allow access to
blades.
Remove blade bolt, lock washer and fl at washer se cur ing
blade.
Install new or resharpened blade with trail ing edge up
towards deck as shown.
IMPORTANT: To ensure proper as sem bly, center hole in
blade must align with star on mandrel assembly.
Reassemble blade bolt, lock washer and fl at washer in
exact order as shown.
Tighten blade bolt securely (27-35 Ft. Lbs. torque).
IMPORTANT: Blade bolt is grade 8 heat treated
BATTERY
Your tractor has a battery charging system which is suf fi cient
for normal use. However, periodic charging of the battery
with an automotive charger will extend its life.
Keep battery and terminals clean.
