1. Wear indicator groove
Checking the front and rear
brake pads
Each brake pad is provided with a wear
indicator groove, which allows check-

ing the brake pad for wear without dis-
assembling the brake. Inspect each
wear indicator groove and, as soon as
one of them has almost worn away,
ask a Yamaha dealer to replace the
brake pads as a set.

Inspecting the brake fluid
level
Insufficient brake fluid may let air enter
the brake system, possibly causing the
brakes to become ineffective.
Before riding, check that the brake fluid
is above the minimum level and replen-
ish when necessary.
Observe these precautions:

When checking the fluid level,
make sure the top of the master
cylinder is level by turning the han-
dlebars.
