P-1800 PF R OWNER'S MANUAL
6. Clean your Prestige Series Power Conditioner with a damp cloth only. Do not use solvents or abrasive cleaners. Never pour liquid on
or into the unit.
7. Your Prestige Series Power Conditioner should be serviced by qualified service personnel when:
• The power supply cord or the plug has been frayed, kinked, or cut.
• Objects have fallen or liquid has spilled into the unit.
• The unit has been exposed to rain or extreme moisture.
• The unit does not appear to operate normally.
• The "Protection OK" indicator is not lit.
• The unit has been dropped, or the enclosure has been damaged.
8. Your Prestige Series Power Conditioner requires that a safety ground be present for proper operation. Any attempt to operate the
unit without a safety ground is considered improper operation and could invalidate the warranty.
9. Do not attempt to service your Prestige Series Power Conditioner beyond what is described in this manual. All other servicing
should be referred to qualified service personnel.

OPERATION

Digital Voltage Meter:
Furman's laboratory precision AC digital voltmeter continually measures AC voltages within a typical tolerance of +/-1.5VAC. It should
be noted that the display represents incoming voltage.
The meter can be dimmed by holding the adjacent dimmer button to the right of the meter. Hold this button down for two seconds to
cycle the brightness settings of the display.
Voltage Range Indicator:
This indicator is located in the lower left corner of the digital voltage meter lens assembly. When AC voltage is within 5 volts (+/-) of a
nominal 120VAC source, this tri-color indicator will be green (optimal). However, if the voltage is between 110 to 114VAC or between
126 to 130VAC, the indicator will turn amber (caution - not optimal). If the incoming voltage is in an extreme range (below 110 or
above 130), the indicator will turn red. This range is far from optimal, and may be potentially damaging to some equipment.
NOTE: Furman's P-1800 PF R does not compensate for high or low AC line voltage. If you frequently move your rack to different loca-
tions, derive power from generators, use excessively long extension cords, travel internationally, or are in an area prone to brownouts,
you may benefit from the use of one of Furman's AC Line Voltage Regulators.
Ultra-Low Resistance Magnetic Power Switch / Circuit Breaker:
Furman's Prestige Series 15 amp capacity power switch - breaker is specifically designed to stand up to the enormous high in-rush cur-
rent demands of many power amplifiers. Additionally, Furman magnetic circuit breakers are not sensitive to temperature, nor do they
raise the AC impedance as do many less costly thermal breakers. If the 15 amp maximum RMS current capacity of the P-1800 PF R is
exceeded, the spring tensioned switch will immediately reset to the "Off" position. You will need to switch back to the "On" position
once the problem is corrected (typically by eliminating one component), or until the RMS current does not exceed 12 amps - 1440
watts.
Total Current Capacity:
The incoming circuit is designed for 15 amps (1800 watts). However, the Power Factor Technology circuit actually requires some of the
maximum RMS current capacity however, so the rated available output current is in fact 12 amps (1440 watts) or greater - maximum
15 amps. Due to the vector load represented by many amplifier power supplies when connected to our Power Factor circuit, the avail-
able current could be as high as 15 amps, but never less than 12 amps. This also only applies to average or RMS current draw, as the
circuit can handle many times this for peak current demands from even the largest - robust power amplifiers.
Extreme Voltage Shutdown Indicator:
The Extreme Voltage LED indicator is normally off. It is located within the meter lens assembly directly above the blue voltage meters
LED's, though during normal use it will NOT be visible.
The Extreme Voltage indicator monitors a hazard common in the entertainment industry, as well as remote broadcasting: wiring faults,
such as accidental connection to 208VAC where 120VAC is expected, or an open series neutral from a 208 to 240VAC electrical service.
The Furman EVS circuit senses voltages that are so high that operation would be impossible and shuts the power down before damage
can occur.
