Prerequisites
Consult your database administrator about backing up and restoring databases.

Verify that you have system administrator privileges to perform backup or restore operations.

Procedure
1
On the destination machine, open a console and run the
command to stop the Inventory Service before you restore the Inventory Service database.

On the destination machine, open a command prompt in the vCenter Server and change the directory
to
/usr/lib/vmware-vpx/inventoryservice/scripts/

Run the following command at the prompt to restore the Inventory Service database.
./restore.sh -backup backup_file_name
When the restore operation finishes, the message
appears at the command prompt.

Reset the vCenter Inventory Service Database

If the vCenter Inventory Service Database is corrupted or otherwise inoperable, you can reset it. You should
also reset the vCenter Inventory Service Database if you reset the vCenter Server database.

Resetting the vCenter Inventory Service Database can cause data loss. Perform this procedure

Procedure

Stop the vCenter Inventory Service.

From the Windows Administrative Tools control panel, select Services.

Right-click VMware vCenter Inventory Service and select Stop.

Open a command prompt.

Delete the entire contents of the
directory.
If you installed vCenter Server in a different location from the default
path accordingly.
