Managing Gift Cards
On the Shop settings screen you can access the Gift Cards screen, where you can manage both Barnes & Noble Gift
Cards and Barnes & Noble eGift Cards.
A Barnes & Noble Gift Card is a plastic card that has a unique number and in most cases a PIN. You can use Gift
Cards to make purchases on your NOOK, on BN.com, and in Barnes & Noble stores, including Barnes & Noble Col-
lege bookstores.
A Barnes & Noble eGift Card is an email message containing a gift card number and a PIN. eGift Cards are redeem-
able both in Barnes & Noble stores and online; however, eGift Cards currently cannot be redeemed at Barnes &
Noble College bookstores.
NOTE: You can use Gift Cards and eGift Cards to purchase NOOK Books and single issues of NOOK Maga-
zines and NOOK Newspapers. However, you cannot use Gift Cards or eGift Cards to purchase sub-
scriptions to NOOK Magazines or Newspapers.
You can have up to three Gift Cards or eGift Cards associated with your BN.com account. Once a Gift Card or eGift
Card is associated with your account, your NOOK draws from the card's balance, rather than from your account's
default credit card, when you make a purchase. Once the total balance of your Gift Card and eGift Cards reaches
zero, your NOOK automatically charges your account's default credit card for any amounts remaining in a purchase
and for subsequent purchases.

Checking the Balance of Your Gift Cards and Certificates
To check the total balance of all the Gift Cards associated with your BN.com account, tap the Gift Cards button on
the Shop settings screen. The Gift Cards screen displays the total balance of any Gift Cards, eGift Cards, and gift
certificates you have added to your account.
Adding a Gift Card, eGift Card, or Gift Certificate
To add a Gift Card, eGift Card, or Gift Certificate to your account, do this:
1. On the Shop settings screen, tap the Gift Cards button.
2. On the Gift Cards screen, tap the Add Gift Card button.
A window opens with fields for entering gift card information.
3. Use the online keyboard to enter the number for the Gift Card, eGift Card, or Gift Certificate in the top field.
4. If your card has a PIN on the back, tap in the PIN field in the Add Gift Card window and type the 4-digit PIN.
NOTE: Most Barnes & Noble Gift Cards and eGift Cards require a PIN. For Gift Cards, the PIN is located on
the back and may be covered by a seal that needs to be scratched off. For eGift Cards, the PIN can be
found in the email message that contains the eGift Card itself.
NOTE: Barnes & Noble Gift Card numbers beginning with 349 do not require the use of a PIN.
5. Once you have entered the number of the Gift Card, eGift Card, or gift certificate and, if necessary, a PIN, tap
the Submit button.
Your NOOK validates the card or certificate information you have entered. If the information has been entered cor-
rectly, your NOOK updates the Total Balance amount on the Gift Cards screen to reflect the addition of the value of
the new card or certificate. Now you're ready to apply your new card to purchases in the NOOK Store.
