Example: Creating Regular Polygons
In this exercise, you examine factors by creating a circular board
and populating it with regular (equilateral) polygons whose
vertices are on the perimeter. The specific shapes that you can
draw depend on the number of pegs around the board.
1. Create a 12-peg circular board with a radius of 1.
2. Select
3. Starting at the topmost peg, select
command to place a vertex at every 4
3-sided regular polygon (an equilateral triangle). The triangle
is possible because 4 and 3 are factors of 12. 4×3=12.
4. Starting again at the top peg, place a vertex at every 3
to draw a 4-sided regular polygon (a square). 3×4=12.
5. Starting again at the top peg, place a vertex at every 2
to draw a 6-sided regular polygon (a hexagon). 2×6=12.
