PRACTICES
GENERAL
• For use in all D4 channel bank and SLC 96 terminal applications
• NEAR and FAR logic level bantam test access
• Non-intrusive monitoring of received data from NEAR or FAR direction
• Switched 56k tandem signaling option
• Error correction, latching loopback, and zero code suppression options
• Remotely provisionable; compatible with Performance Monitoring and
Digital System-6 interfaces
The ADTRAN D4 DS0 DP SD4/PM provides the interface between the WECO-compatible
D4 channel bank or SLC 96 terminal and the standard DS-0 4-wire central office signal. The
DS0 DP may be used to interoperate with another DS0 DP or OCU DP across a T-carrier
system or interface other DS-0 level equipment such as a multipoint junction unit (MJU) or
subrate multiplexer unit (SRMU). Either DS-0A or DS-0B formatted signals are accepted by
the DS0 DP. In SW56 mode, the ADTRAN DS0 DP SD4/PM will maintain A and B bit
signaling between two carrier systems. The unit can be remotely provisioned through
ADTRAN Performance Monitoring and Digital System 6 interfaces.
OPTIONS
• ERROR CORRECTION is enabled by turning SW1-1 on.
• Select the appropriate RATE from switches SW1-2 to SW1-5. Only one rate switch should be turned on.
• Select SWITCHED 56 (SW1-6) to maintain A and B bit signaling between two carrier system timeslots. When in the off
position, data is passed transparently between carrier timeslots.
• Select the appropriate BANK TYPE from switches SW3-1 to SW3-3. Only one of these switches should be turned on.
• ZERO CODE SUPPRESSION is enabled by turning switch SW3-4 on.
• LATCHING LOOPBACK is enabled by turning switch SW3-5 on.
LED INDICATORS
• REM (Remote Provisioning): On indicates unit has been remotely provisioned, flashing indicates remote control link is
active. Push AP (Alternate Provisioning) button to toggle between manual and remote provisioning.
• PM (Performance Monitor): Indicates unit has established PM link with PM channel bank commons
• LB (Loopback): Indicates latching DS0 or DS1 loopback activation
TESTING
The ADTRAN DS0 DP SD4/PM is equipped with logic level bantam test access jacks that permit testing in both
directions using a portable test set. Choose NEAR to test toward the 4-wire office signal direction; choose FAR to
test toward the T-carrier.
In the FAR direction, a DS0 DP latching loopback sequence for the first DSO DP will loop the unit directly connected
to the test set. In the NEAR direction, a DS0 DP latching loopback sequence for the first DS0 DP will be transmitted
across the 4-wire interface to the tandem DS0 DP unit.
