Actiontec External 56K/V92 Modem User Manual
When I run diagnostics, or try to connect to the Internet I'm getting an open
COM Port error. What should I do?
Many different things can cause this error. Here are some things to look for:
• If your internal modem is still enabled, the computer's dialup networking
components can become confused. Disable the internal modem.
• Communication applications can also be blocking the COM Port. This
would include fax software, Palm software (including Hot Sync software).
The power light on the modem isn't coming on. What could be the prob-
lem?
Sometimes a surge protector has taken a surge of power from lightning or
surges from the electric company. This can disable one or more plugs on the
surge protector. Try plugging the power adapter directly into a wall outlet that
you know is working. Make sure the power cord connector is firmly connected
to the Modem and turn the on. The power light should be lit. If it is not, contact
technical support at the number provided. Your Modem may need to be
replaced.
I cannot access some websites after installing the modem. What is causing
this?
This modem has no settings or abilities to block any Web sites. You should check
your browser settings or contact your ISP to have them check your settings.
I'm getting disconnected more frequently since installing this modem.
What should I do?
Many different things can cause this. Here are some things to look for:
• Is the internal modem disabled?
• Have you reconfigured your ISP software and DUN connection to the new
Modem?
• Have you checked you phone line for noise, hissing, or static?
• Have you contacted your ISP to check your browser settings for idle time-
out or disconnect settings?
