Theenginewill automatically s hut off if the PTO (Blade Engage) l everis
movedintothe engaged (ON)positionwith the shift leverinReverse.
Ignition Switch
Theignitionswitchisactivated to startthe engine.Insertkeyintothe ignition
switchandturn clockwise to the START p osition.Release the keyinto the ON
positiononceenginehasfired.SeeFigure 8.
Tostopthe engine,turn the ignition keycounterclockwise to the OFF position. S ee

Neverleave a running machine unattended. Always disengage PTO,
move shift lever intoneutral position, set parking brake, stop engine
land remove key to prevent un ntended start ng.
IMPORTANT:
Prior t o operatingthe tractor,referto bothSafety InterlockSwitches
andStartingTheEngine inthe Operation sectionof thismanual f orfurther detailed
instructions.

Start
Setting the CuttingHeight
1.
Select t he heightpositionof the cuttingdeckbyplacingthe decklift leverin
anyof thesixdifferentcutting heightnotches onthe rightsideof the fender.
Keephands and feet away from the discharge opening of the cutting
deck.
Starting the Engine
Donot operatethe tractor if the interlock systemis malfunctioning. This
systemwasdesignedfor your safetyand protection.
NOTE: R efer t o the Gasoline andOilfill-up instructions earlierinthissection.
1.
Insertthe tractorkeyintothe ignitionswitch.
2.
Place the PTO (Blade Engage) l everinthe disengaged (OFF) position.
3.
Engage the tractor'sparkingbrake.
4.
Activatethe chokecontrolbymovingthe throttle/chokeleverall the wayup
intothe chokeposition.
5.
Turnthe ignitionkeyclockwise to the START p osition. A fterthe enginestarts,
release the key.It will returnto the ON(orNormal M owing)position.
DoNOThold the key in the STARTpositionfor longer thanten
secondsat a time. Doingso may causedamageto yourengine's
electricstarter.
6.
Afterthe enginestarts,deactivatethechokecontrolandplacethethrottle
controlinthe FAST p osition.
NOTE: D oNOT leavethe chokecontrol o nwhileoperatingthe tractor.Doing sowill
resultina"rich"fuel mixtureandcause the engineto run poorly.

Toengage the parking brake:
I.
Fullydepress t he clutch-brake pedalandhold itdown withyourfoot.
2.
Movethe speed controlleverall the waydown andintothe parkingbrake
position.
3.
Release t he dutch-brakepedal t o allowthe parkingbraketo engage.
Toreleasethe parking brake:
I.
Depress t he clutch-brake pedalandmovethe speed controlleverout of the
parkingbrake positionandinto adesiredspeed.
