STARTING
THE ENGINE
Recoil Starter
Alwayskeephandsand feet clearof movingparts.Do not usea
pressurizedstartingfluid. Vaporsare flammable.
NOTE:Allowtheengineto warm up for a few minutesafter starting.
Theenginewill not developfull poweruntilit reachesoperating
temperatures.
1.
Makecertain boththe augercontroland wheeldrivecontrolare in
the disengaged(released)position.
2.
Insertkey intoslot. Makesureit snapsinto place.Do notattempt
to turnthe key.
NOTE:The enginecannotstartwithoutthe key fully insertedintothe
ignitionswitch.
Electric
Starter
The optionalelectricstarteris equippedwith a groundedthree-wire
powercord and plug,and is designedto operateon 120volt AC
householdcurrent.It must be usedwith a properlygroundedthree-
prongreceptacleat all timesto avoidthe possibilityof electric shock.
Followall instructionscarefullypriorto operatingthe electricstarter.
Determinethat your home'swiringis a three-wiregroundedsystem.
Ask a licensedelectricianif youare not certain.
If youhavea groundedthree-prongreceptacle, p roceedas follows:
1.
Plugthe extensioncordinto theoutlet locatedon the engine's
surface.Plugthe otherend of extensioncordinto a three-prong
120-volt, g rounded,AC outletin a well-ventilated area.

Movethrottlecontrolto FAST(rabbit)_
position.
3.
Movechoketo the CHOKEposition I,._1 (coldenginestart).
NOTE: If the engineis alreadywarm,placechokecontrol in the
RUNpositioninsteadof CHOKE IJl
position.
4.
Pushprimerthree times(3x), makingsureto covervent hole in
primerbulbwhen pushing.If engineis warm,pushprimeronly
once.Alwayscover venthole whenpushing.Coolweathermay
requireprimingto be repeated.
5.
Pushstarterbuttonto start engine.Oncethe enginestarts,im-
mediatelyreleasestarterbutton.Electricstarteris equippedwith
thermaloverloadprotection;systemwill temporarilyshut-downto
allowstarterto cool if electricstarterbecomesoverloaded.
To prolongstarterlife, useshort startingcycles(5 secondsmaximum
then wait one minute).
6.
As theenginewarms,slowlyrotatethe chokecontrol tothe RUN
position.If the enginefalters,restartengineand run with choke
at half-chokepositionfor a short periodof time,and then slowly
rotatethe chokeintothe RUNposition.
7.
After engineis running,disconnectpowercordfrom electric
starter.Whendisconnecting,alwaysunplugthe end at the wall
outletbeforeunpluggingtheoppositeend from the engine.
Donot pull the starterhandlewhile theengine running.

Movethrottlecontrolto FAST(rabbit)_
position.
2.
Movechoke to the CHOKE IJl
position'_'(cold engine start). If
engine is warm,placechoke in the RUNposition.
3.
Pushprimerthreetimes,making sureto covervent holewhen
pushing.If engineis warm,pushprimeronly once.Alwayscover
vent hole whenpushing.Coolweathermay requireprimingto be
repeated.
4.
Pullgentlyon the starterhandleuntilit beginsto resist,thenpull
quicklyand forcefully to overcome the compression. Engineshould
start.Donot releasethehandleandallowit to snapback.Return
ropeSLOWLY to originalposition.If required,repeatthis step.
5.
As the enginewarms,slowlyrotatethe chokecontrolto the RUN
position.If the enginefalters, restartengineand run with choke
at half-chokepositionfora short periodof time,and thenslowly
rotatethechoke intothe RUNposition.
Toavoidunsupervisedengineoperation,neverleavethe machine
unattendedwith the enginerunning.Turnthe engineoff after useand
removekey.
STOPPING
THE ENGINE
After you havefinishedsnow-throwing, r un enginefor a few minutes
beforestoppingto helpdry off any moistureon the engine.

Movethrottlecontrolto STOPI_
position.

Remove thekey.Removing thekeywillreducethepossibility of
unauthorized s tarting of theengine whileequipment i snotin use.
Keepthekeyin a safeplace.Theenginecannotstartwithoutthekey.
3.
Wipeall snowand moisturefrom the area aroundthe engine as
well as thearea in and aroundthe wheeldrivecontrol and auger
control.Also,engageand releasebothcontrolsseveraltimes.
TO ENGAGE
WHEEL
DRIVE
1.
With the throttlecontrolin the Fast(rabbit)_
position,move
speedselector leverintoone of the six forward (F)positionsor
two reverse(R) positions.Selecta speedappropriatefor the
snowconditionsand a paceyou'recomfortablewith.
NOTE: Whenselectinga DriveSpeed,usethe slowerspeeds
untilyouare comfortableand familiarwith the operationof the
snowthrower.
2.
Squeezethe drivecontrolagainstthe handleand the snow
throwerwill move.Releaseit and drive motionwill stop.
NOTE:NEVERrepositionthe speedselectorlever(changespeedsor
directionof travel)withoutfirst releasingthe drivecontroland bringing
the snow throwerto a completestop.Doingso will resultin premature
wearto the snow thrower'sdrivesystem.
