OWNER'S MANUAL
Congratulations on your purchase of SpeakerCraft' s VWS60 Outdoor Volume Control. Specifically designed
for outdoor applications, the VWS60 is a 60 watt volume control for use with 4, 6, or 8Ω speakers. Featuring
stainless steel hardware and a PVC enclosure, the VWS60 can be mounted onto
used either fastened onto a wall or free-standing.
Introduction
The SpeakerCraft VWS60 is a wall mounted stereo volume control, which connects between the speaker level
output of an amplifier, receiver or speaker selector and a pair of speakers.
Volume Control Placement
When deciding where the volume control will be mounted onto the wall, consider the
various ways it will be used. The primary listening area and the ease of running the wire to
your chosen location are the important things to keep in mind. The most common
tions for outdoor volume controls are on the wall or on a PVC stub-out at ground level.
If you do not understand any part of these instructions, please contact your SpeakerCraft
dealer. Improper wiring could cause damage to your audio system.
Do not put the volume control into the same box as a 110V AC circuit. (i.e.
light switch, electrical outlet, etc.). Speaker wires can act as an "antenna" for electrical
noise. Locating speaker wires too close to a light switch or dimmer may cause a buzzing
or
popping sound to be heard through the speakers. If you must locate the VWS60 near
electrical devices, use a separate electrical box.
Wiring the VWS60
NOTE: The rotary switch is shipped with the control turned as far counterclockwise as it will turn (off). If you
have changed this, return it to the full counterclockwise position before starting installation.

or a T-coupling for the speaker and amplifier connections. SpeakerCraft recommends running the wires from
the amplifier to the junction box, and then branching the wires out to the VWS60 and speakers. In the alterna-
tive, you may simply use T-couplings on the PVC conduit as needed.
2. Attach the speaker wires to the VWS60 using crimps, crimp caps, or by soldering. SpeakerCraft highly recommends
using heat shrink crimps to keep out moisture and to reduce corrosion.
3. Since the wiring will be sealed inside the conduit, be sure to test all of your connections by activating the amplifier
and toning the speakers.
4. Once the speakers are connected, put the wiring back into the conduit and seal the conduit with silicone.
5. Use PVC adhesive to attach the VWS60 to the conduit. DO NOT spill the adhesive onto the VWS60, as it may
mar the finish. SpeakerCraft highly recommends applying a bead of silicone at the conduit seam for maximum
weatherproofing.
6. To wall mount the VWS60, simply use four screws and wall anchors, if applicable.
CAUTION: If the input and output connections are reversed, the minimum setting on the volume control
would present a short across the amplifier or receiver output terminals. This may seriously damage your
amplifier or receiver. Please double check steps 1 through 6. This volume control cannot be connected in
series with another volume control.
