Engine
Referto the separateengine manualpackedwith your
unitfor all enginemaintenance.
Lubrication
Gear (Hex) Shaft
Oncea season,lubricatethe hexshaftwith a penetrat-
ing oil, but notgrease. Referto Figure17.
Wheels
At leastonce a season,removeboth wheels.Cleanand
coat theaxles with a multipurposeautomotive grease
beforereinstalling wheels.
Auger Shaft
At leastonce a season,removethe shearpinson auger
shaft. Spraylubricantinsideshaft, aroundthe spacers.
Alsolubricatethe flangebearingsfoundat eitherend of
the shaft. See Figure24.
Gear Case
Theaugergear case has beenfilled with greaseat
the factory.If disassembled forany reason,lubricate
with two ouncesof grease(Part Number737-0168).
Beforereassembling, r emoveold sealantand applynew
sealant.
NOTE: Donot overfillthe gearcase. Damageto the
sealscould result.Be surethe vent plug is freeof
greasein orderto relievepressure.
Drive Mechanism
Removerearcover.Oil anychains,sprockets,gears,
bearings,shafts,and shiftingmechanism at leastonce
a season.Use engineoil or a spraylubricant.Avoid
gettingoil on rubberfrictionwheeland aluminumdrive
plate.
Engine
Referto the separateengine manualpackedwith your
unitfor all enginelubricationinstructions.
Drive/Auger
Control
Lock
Thecam on theends of the controlrodswhich interlock
the driveand augercontrolsmustbe lubricatedat least
oncea seasonor every 25 hoursof operationusing
a multi-purpose automotivegrease.The cam can be
accessedbeneathhandle panel.
Shave Plate and Skid Shoes
Theshaveplateand skid shoeson the bottomof the
snowthrowerare subjectto wear.Theyshouldbe
checkedperiodicallyand replacedwhennecessary.
Toremoveskid shoes:
1. Removethefour carriagebolts and hexflangenuts
whichsecurethem to the snowthrower.
2. Reassemble new skid shoeswith the fourcarriage
bolts (two on each side)and hexflange nuts.Refer
to Figures18Aor 18B.

Toremoveshaveplate:
1. Removethecarriageboltsand hexnuts whichattach
it and the skid shoesto the snowthrowerhousing.
2. Reassemble new shaveplate,makingsureheadsof
carriagebolts are to the insideof housing.Tighten
securely.
