Emission Control System Warranty Statement
(Owner's Defect Warranty Rights and Obligations)
TheU. S. EPAand MTDare pleasedto explainthe emissionscontrolsystemwarrantyen yourmodelyear2005 and latersmalloff-roadengine.
New smalloff-roadenginesmustbe designed,built andequippedto meetthe stringentanti-smogstandards.MTDmustwarrantythe emission
controlsystemon your engineforthe periodof time listed below,providedtherehas been no abuse,neglector impropermaintenance of your small
off-roadengine.
Youremissioncontrolsystemmay includeparts suchas the carburetor,air cleaner,ignitionsystem,exhaustsystem,and otherassociatedemis-
sion-related components.
Wherea warrantableconditionexists,MTDwill repairyoursmall off-roadengine at no costto yourincludingdiagnosis,partsand labor.
MANUFACTURER'S
WARRANTY COVERAGE:
This emissionscontrols _stemiswarrantedfor two years.If anyemission-related part on your engineis defective,the part will be repairedor
replacedby MTD.
OWNER'S WARRANTY
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Asthe smalloff-roadenqlneowner,you are responsible for the performanceof the requiredmaintenance listed in your Owner'sManual.MTD
recommends that you retainall yourreceiptscoveringmaintenances on yoursmall off-roadengine,but MTDcannet denywarrantysolelyferthe
lack of receiptsor for yourfailureto ensurethe performance to all scheduledmaintenance.
Asthe smalloff-roadengineowner,you shouldhoweverbe awarethat MTDmaydenyyourwarrantycoverageif yoursmall off-roadengineor part
hasfaileddue to abuse,neglect,impropermaintenance or unapproved modifications.
Youare responsible for presenting your smalloff-roadengineto an AuthorizedMTDServiceDealeras soon asa problemexists.Thewarranted
repairsshouldbe completedin a reasonableamountof time, notto exceed30 days.

DEFECTS WARRANTY
REQUIREMENTS
FOR 1995 AND LATER SMALL OFF-ROAD ENGINES:
This sectionappliesto 1995and latersmalloff-roadengines.The warrantyperiodbeginson the datethe engineor equipmentis deliveredto an
ultimatepurchaser.
(a) General Emissions WarrantyCoverage
MTDmustwarrantto the ultimatepurchaserand eachsubsequentpurchaserthat the engineis:
(1) Designed,built,and equippedsoas to conformwith all applicableregulationsadoptedbythe Air ResourcesBoardpursuantto its authorityin
Chapters1 and 2,Part 5, Division26 of the Health and SafetyCode; and
(2) Freefrom defects in materialsandworkmanship that causethefailureof a warrantedpartto be identicalin all materialrespectsto the partas
describedin the enginemanufacturer's applicationfor certificationfor a period of two years.
(b) The warrantyon emissions-related partswill be interpreted as follows:
(1) Anywarrantedpartthat is not scheduled for replacement a s requiredmaintenancein the writteninstructionsrequiredby Subsection(c)
mustbe warrantedfor the warrantyperioddefinedin Subsection(a)(2). If any such partfails duringthe period of warrantycoverage,it must be
repairedor replacedby MTDaccordingto Subsection(4) below.Anysuch part repairedor replacedunderthe warrantymust be warranted for
the remainingwarrantyperiod.
(2) Anywarrantedpartthat is scheduledonlyfor regularinspectionin the writteninstructionsrequiredby Subsection(c) mustbe warranted for
the warrantyperioddefinedin Subsection(a)(2).A statementin such writteninstructionsto the effectof "repairor replaceas necessary"will
net reducethe periodof warrantycoverage.Any such part repairedor replacedunderwarrantymustbe warranted for the remainingwarranty
period.
(3) Anywarrantedpartthat which is scheduled for replacementas requiredmaintenanceinthe writteninstructionsrequiredbySubsection(c)
mustbe warrantedfor the periodof time prior to the first scheduledreplacementpointfor that part. If the part fails priorto thefirst scheduled
replacement, t he part mustbe repairedor replacedby MTDaccordingto Subsection(4) below.Any such part repairedor replacedunder
warrantymustbe warrantedfor the remainderof the period priorto the first scheduledreplacementpointfor the part.
(4) Repairor replacement o f any warrantedpart underthewarrantyprovisionsof this article mustbe performedat no chargeto the ownerat a
warrantystation.
(5) Notwithstanding the provisionsof Subsection(4) above,warrantyservicesor repairsmustbe providedat all MTDdistributioncentersthat
arefranchisedto servicethe subjectengines.
(6) The ownermustnot be chargedfor diagnosticlaborthat leadsto the determination that a warrantedpart is in factdefective,providedthat
such diagnosticwork is performedat a warrantystation.
