AWARNING
At the time of manufacturethis water heater was provided
with a combination temperature-pressures relief valvecertified
by a nationally recognized testing laboratory that maintains
periodicinspection of production of listedequipmentor mate-
rials, as meeting the requirements
for Relief Valves and
AutomaticGasShutoffDevices for Hot Water Supply Systems,
and the latest edition of ANSI Z21.22 and the code require-
mentsof ASME. If replaced, the valvemustmeet the require-
ments oflocalcodes, but not lessthan a combination tempera-
ture and pressure rellef valvecertifiedas meeting the require-
mentsfor ReliefValvesand AutomaticGas ShutoffDevices for
Hot Water Supply Systems, A NSI Z21.22 by a nationally recog-
nized testinglaboratorythat maintains periodicinspection of
)roduction of listedequipment or materials.
The valvemust be marked with a maximum set pressure not
Ito exceed the marked hydrostaticworking pressureof the
water heater (150 Ibsdsq. in.) and a discharge capacity not less
than the water heater inputrate as shown on the modelrating
plate. (Electric heaters - watts dividedby 1000 x 3415 equal
BTUIHr. rate.)
Yourlocaljurisdictional authority, w hilemandatingthe useof a
temperature-pressure relief valvecomplying with ANSI Z21.22
and ASME, may requirea valvemodel differentfrom the one
furnished with the water heater.
Compliance with suchlocalrequirements mustbe satisfied by
the installeror end user ofthe water heaterwith a locallypre-
scribed temperature-pressure r elief valveinstallod in the desig-
nated openingin the water heater in placeof the factoryfur_
nishedvalve.
Forsafeoperationof the water heater, the relief valvemustnot
be removed from it'sdesignated opening or plugged.
I
The temperature-pressure relief valvemustbe installed directly
intothe fittingofthewater heaterdesignated f or the reliefvalve.
Position the valvedownward and provide tubing sothat anydis-
chargewill exit onlywithin 6 inchesabove,or at any distance
belowthe structuralfloor.Be certainthat no contactis made
with anyliveelectricalpart. The discharge o pening mustnot be
Mocked or reduced in sizeunder anycircumstances. Excessive
length,over30 feet,or useof more than fourelbows cancause
restriction and reducethe discharge c apacity ofthe valve.
No valveor other obstruction isto be placedbetweenthe relief
valveand the tank. Do not connecttubing directlyto discharge
drainunless a 6" air gapisprovided. Toprevantbodilyinjury, h az-
