If you do not follow these instructions exactly, a fire or explosion

A. This appliancehas a pilot which must be lightedby
hand.Whenlightingthe pilot,follow theseinstructions
exactly.
B. BEFORE LIGHTING smellall aroundtheappliancearea
for gas. Be sure to smell next to the floor because
somegasis heavierthanair and willsettleon thefloor.
WHAT TO DOIF YOUSMELLGAS
• Do nottry to lightany appliance.
• Do not touch any electric switch; do not use any
phonein yourbuilding.
• Immediately call yourgas supplierfrom a neighbor's
phone.Followthegassupplier's instructions.

• If you cannotreach your gas supplier,call the fire
department.
Useonlyyour handto pushin or turnthe gascontrol
knob. Neverusetools. If the knobwill not pushin or
turnby hand,don'ttry to repairit, call a qualified ser-
vice technician. F orceor attemptedrepair may result
in a fire or explosion.
Do not usethis applianceif any part has beenunder
water.Immediately call a qualifiedservicetechnician
to inspect t he appliance and to replaceany partof the
controlsystemand any gas controlwhichhas been
underwater.

1. STOP!Readthesafetyinformation aboveon thislabel.
2. Remove outerdoor.
3. Set the thermostat to lowest setting by

4. Turn gas control knob clockwiseV÷to
OFF position.Knob cannotbe turnedfrom "PILOT"
to "OFF" unlessknobis depressed slightly.DO NOT
FORCE, (Figure5, page19)
5. Wait five (5) minutesto clear out any gas. If you then
smell gas, STOP!Follow"B" in the safety information
above on this label. If you don't smell gas, go to the
nextstep.
6. Remove(or open) inner door locatedbelow the gas
controlunit.(Figure8, page19)
7. Findpilot-follow metal tube from gas control.The pilot
islocatedin front ofthe burner.

8. If you don't smell gas, turn knob on gas control
counter-clockwise ,_to
"PILOT" position.

9. Push in control knob all the way and hold down.
Immediatelylightthe pilot with a match.Continueto
hold control knob in for about one (1) minuteafter
the pilot is lit. Releaseknoband it will pop backup.
Pilot shouldremain lit. If it goes out, repeat steps4
through9.
• If knobdoes not pop up when released, s top and
immediatelycall your service technicianor gas
supplier.
• If the pilot will not stay lit after several tries,
depressand turn the gascontrolknobclockwise
I to "OFF"and call yourservicetechnician
or gas supplier. (Figure5, page19)
10. Replace(or close) innerdoor. Replaceouter door if
door does not covergas controlon/off knobor tam-
peratureadjustment k nob.(Figure8, page19)
11.At armslengthaway,turn gas controlknob counter-
clockwise(Oto
the full
"ON"
position.
WARNING: Do not use gas control knob to reg.
ulate gas flow. (Figure7, page19)
12.At arms length away,set the thermostatto desired
setting.The mark( • ) HOTindicative of approximate
120°Fis preferredstarting point. Some local laws
may requirea lowerstartingpoint.If hotterwater is
desired,see instruction manualand "warning" below.
13. Replace theouterdoorif not replaced in step10.

TO TURN
OFF GAS TO APPLIANCE
1. Set the thermostat to lowest setting by turning the
watertemperature dial clockwise ( f

temperature setting(witharrowon dial)as shown.
2. Turn gas control knob clockwise ._
to "OFF"
position, Knob cannot be turned V"
from "PILOT" to "OFF" unless knob is depressed
slightly,DO NOT FORCE. (Figure5)
3. Replaceouterdoor (if removed).
