attempting to lightor relightthe water heaters pilotor tuming
on a nearby electrical l ightswitch,be absolutely surethere is no
accumulated gasin the are_ Searchfor odor ofgasbymiffing at
groundlevelin the vicinityof the appl_nce.If odor isdetected,
followstepsindicatedat "For YourSafety"on the coverpageof
this manualthen leavethepremise_
Lighting and operating instructions are located on front of the
water heater, above or to one side of the gas control valve.
AWARNING
AN ODORANT IS ADDED TO THE GAS USED
BY THIS WATER HEATER.
FOR YOUR SAFETY
IF YOU SMELLGAS:
Do not try to light anyappliance.
Do not touch anyelectricalswitch;do not useanyphone in
your building.
Immediately callyour gassupplierfrom a neighbors phone.
Followthe gassuppliersinstruction_
If you cannot reach your gas supplier,call the Ere depart.

DO NOT force the gasconUol knob. Use onlyyour hand to
i_s_ , h it clownto light the pilot,or to turn it to "ON" '_FF"
or PILOT". Never usea tool suchas a lever,w_nch or pli-
erL Do not hit or damagethe Imob. A damagedImob may
resultin an explosionand seriousinjury. If you haveproblem
turning the knob,call the gassupplier immediately.
CHECK FOR LEAKS
Be sure to check all your gas pipes for leaks before lighting your
water heater. Use a soapy water solution, not a match or open
flame. Check the factory gas ,,fittings after pilot is lit and gas con-
trol knob is still in PILOT pos!tion,. Then, check the fittings
when the main burner is turned ON . Use a soapy water solu-
tion for this, too.
