BELT REPLACEMENT
Beforeperforming any type of maintenanceon the machine,wait for
all partsto stop movingand disconnectthe spark plugwire. Failure
to followthis instruction couldresult inpersonalinjury or property
damage.
If the drivebelt needstobe replaced, m akesureyou useonlya factory
authorized belt listedin the Partspagesof this operator'smanual, a s an
"over-the-counter"beltmaynotperformsatisfactorily. Theprocedure
requiresaveragemechanical a bilityand commonly available tools.
Toreplacethe Drivebelt,follow these steps:

Removethebelt coverfrom the left side of the tillerby removing
the two self tappingscrewsand hex stop nutand washer.See
Figure25.

Removetheidlerpulleybolt and movethe beltfrom underthe
idler pulleykeeper.See Figure26.

Removethe belt keeperassemblylocatedbehindthe engine
pulleyby removingthe two hex boltsand lockwashers.See
Figure26.
10. Removethe old belt fromaroundthe transmissionpulleyand
installthe newbelt. See Figure26.
11. Followthe instructionsinreverseorder to re-installthe belt keeper
and idlerpulley.
NOTE:Uponreassembly, makecertainthat theidler pulleykeeperisas
shownin Figure26.Takenoted the notchon the bottomof thekeeper
and thealignment w henreassembling with the replacement belt.
NOTE;After re-installing thebelt,double-check the cableadjustment.
Referto theAssembly sectionfor instructions on adjusting the cable.
TINES
The tines willwearwith use and shouldbe inspectedat the beginning
of each tillingseasonand after every30 operatinghours.The tines
can be replaced.Referto the Parts List sectionof this manualfor part
numbers.
Tine Inspection
With use, the tineswill becomeshorter,narrowerand pointed.Badly
worntines will result ina loss of tillingdepth,and reducedeffective-
nesswhenchoppingup andturningunder organicmatter.
Removing/Installing
a Tine Assembly
1.
A fine assemblyconsistsof a left handtine and a righthand fine.
NOTE:The sharpedgesof thetines are positioned to enterthe soil
first whenrotating.Note this positionof thetines for reinstallation of the
newfineassemblies.

To removea fineassembly,simplyremovethe cotterpin securing
the clevispin for eachtine. See Figure27.
Removethe clevispin for eachfine, and slidethe assemblyto the
outsideof the unit and off of the fine shaft.
Beforereinstalling the tine assembly,inspect t hefine shaftfor
rust,roughspotsor burrs. Lightlyfile or sand,as needed.Applya
thin coat of greaseto the shaft.
Installeachfine of the assemblyso that the cutting(sharp)edge
of the tines will enterthe soilfirst whenthe tillermovesforward.
