GAS ANDOILFILL-UP

IMPORTANT: Thisunit isshipped without gasoline or oil inthe engine.Becertainto
service enginewithgasoline andoil asinstructed in thissectionbefore startingor
runningyourmachine.

First Time Use
1.
Remove o il fill dipstick(G).See Figure 13.
2.
Withthe moweronlevelground,emptyentirecontents of oil bottle
provided intothe engineoil fill (H).
3.
Replace o il fill dipstickandtighten.
Subsequent Uses
Use 4-strokemotoroil thatmeetsor exceeds t he requirements f or API s ervice
category SJ or higher. A lways check the APIservice labelonthe oil container t o be
sureit includes the lettersSJ or higher.
Outdoor t emperatures determine the properoil viscosity f or the engine.Use the
chartto selectthe bestviscosity forthe outdoortemperature rangeexpected.

Check t he oil withthe enginestoppedandlevel.
Remove t he oil fill dipstickandwipeit clean.
Insertandtightenthe oil fill dipstick.Remove i t to check the oil level.See
Figure 13.
If the oil levelisnearor belowthe lowerlimit markonthe dipstick,remove
the oil fill dipstick, a ndfill with the recommended o il to the upperlimit
mark(J).Donot overfill.
Reinstall the oil fill dipstick.
Gasoline
Donot useunapprovedgasolines,such asE15, E 20, o r E85.Donot mix oilin
gasolineor modify engine to runon alternate fuels. Thiswill damagethe
engine componentsandvoid the enginewarranty.

Fuel m ustmeettheserequirements:
Clean, fresh,unleaded gasoline.
Octane ratingof 87(R+M)/2or higher.
Research O ctane Number(RON) 90 octaneminimum.
MethylTertiary ButylEther(MTBE) andunleaded gasoline blend(max15%
MTBE byvolume)areapproved.
Gasoline w ith up to 10%ethanol(gasohol) i sacceptable.
Donot usegasoline olderthan 30days.
Refuel i nawell-ventilated areawith the enginestopped. I f the enginehasbeen
running,allowit to coolfirst. Never r efuelthe engineinside a buildingwhere
gasoline fumesmayreach flamesor sparks.
Gasolineishighlyflammable andexplosive,andyou canbe burned or
seriouslyinjured when refueling. Stopengine and keepheat, sparks,and
flame away.Refuelonly outdoors.Wipeup spills immediately.
Ifyourequipment w ill beusedonan infrequent or intermittent basis, p lease
refertothe OffSeason S torage sectionfor additional i nformation r egarding fuel
deterioration.
NOTE: F uel c andamage paintandsometypesof plastic. B ecareful n ot to spillfuel
whenfilling yourfuel tank.
Neverusestaleor contaminated gasoline or anoil/gasoline mixture.Avoidgetting
dirt or waterinthe fuel tank.
1.
Remove t hefuel tank cap.
2.
Fillthe fuel tankwith fuel.Toallowfor expansion of the fuel,do not fill
above the bottomof the fueltank neck.Donot overfill.Wipeup spilled fuel
before startingthe engine.
3.
Installthe fuel tankcapandtightenit until it clicks.
4.
Movelawnmowerat least10feetawayfromthe fuel container/source and
sitebeforestartingthe engine.
